Kids entertainment before or after lunch? Help!

So my daughter’s aqeeqah is in a month’s time and I’m going to hire someone to do balloon twisting and face painting to keep all the kids entertained. The event starts at 12 and will go till 3:30. We plan to serve appetizers at 12:30, then do our cake cutting ceremony at 1ish followed by a slideshow presentation of our baby’s first year. Lunch will then be served at 1:30, followed by dessert by 2:15. Is it ok to have the kids entertainer come in AFTER lunch/dessert? Do most people have the entertainment at the beginning of the party or after? I just don’t see how I can fit it in before lunch. I am thinking of doing it after lunch. What do other parents think? Your input is much appreciated! I’ve never planned a kid’s bday/aqeeqah before!

Are you asking about the face painter/balloon twister? I would have her/him come by 12:15/12:30 and ask him to start on kids as they arrive. That will keep them busy and happy, but also keep from long lines forming all at once. Then they will have the balloons with them to entertain them throughout the party. Probably s/he will do one thing first then the other, so maybe you can start the balloon twisting later, after lunch is served, around 1:30, again to keep the lines from getting long. Anyway facepainting and balloon twisting are not things that require an audience. You don’t stop your event for them. They can happen in the background to keep kids busy while other things are happening.

If you are asking about the slideshow, you could do it after lunch but before dessert, and make sure people know that there is a presentation. After dessert is way too late and people will start leaving. Can you do lunch earlier, like 1? Will people be seated in a central area during lunch? Can the presentation happen as people eat?

The hall is a bit of a drive, so I don’t think people will arrive right at 12 anyway. You are right, the entertainment can happen even while appetizers and lunch is being served in the background. I will just tell the entertainer to come between 1:00 and 2:30. I have hired her for 1.5 hours.
