kids and swearing

i may be old fashioned, but isnt swearing infront of your kids just wrong? I personally believe, swearing is wrong full stop, but infront of kids is just bad..

whats worst is, when parents call their kids “lil sh**s”

like what is that? ur cool if u call ur kids that or tell them that they are one? what are u teaching ur kids? that its completely ok to swear? what if the kid turns around one day and calls u that?

Re: kids and swearing

It is sad!

When i was growing up...we were not even allowed to say "shut up".

Re: kids and swearing

Unfortunately, many parents must be swearing in front of their kids for the kids to then go to school and swear at their classmates.

I don't see where else the kids can possibly be learning bad words that they then use for their classmates.

Re: kids and swearing

^ If a kid calls u that,w ell ur the only one to blame.. and the kid is probably rite in calling their own parents "sh*theads"

I've seen LOTS of black women doing that here..

Sadiyah, kids can also pick t up from TV n music (esp the crap thas played nowadays), n again its the parents job to monitor that as well

Re: kids and swearing

Mahru, me too!

when we first moved to Australia… i remember only ever giving us one lecture before starting school… “never to say shut up, shurrup (the aussie way) and get lost”

when i moved schools in grade 6, i picked up bad words from my friends.. i remember the only one time i said the ‘F’ word, and a family friend dobbed on me.. it was horrid! i was like 12 hahaha…

i dont think im sworn since then…

i have friends who have kids.. and they tell me “i dont know where my girls pick up these words” and im just like :halo:… you!

its not just black parents or gore laug… i see paki’s doing it … and yeah its not just parents they pick it up from, its tv and the kids they hang out with at school…

the saddest thing was seeing a 3 yr old say ‘F’… shudder

Re: kids and swearing

Sadz, here (in NY) thas what I've seen, lots of blacks behaving that way.. in Pak, i hav relatives who are just as bad, if not worse..

Re: kids and swearing

It's wrong with a capital W.
And there's no excuse for it.
No amount of anger warrants that kind of language in front of kids.

Re: kids and swearing

If you have a habit of swearing all the times then its most likely that it will happen front of kids also no matter how much you try not to.

Re: kids and swearing

^ yes. That's very true.
I've seen it happen in so many cases.

Re: kids and swearing

I started tickling a 12-year old cousin of mine last month and he told me to "F--- off" :(

Re: kids and swearing

LOL

Re: kids and swearing

^ Ouch :(

Its terrible!

Re: kids and swearing

I remember my brother and I used to use code words for swearing around my parents.

So instead of S--- we would shout "Sugar" or more commonly "Sheesh Kebab".

So like, if I dropped my fork when I was 13 and my parents were in the kitchen I'd shout "Oh sheesh kebab!!!!"

Re: kids and swearing

well yeah its like telling them "beta jhoot nahi boltay...jhoot ganday bachay boltay hain" and then the phone rings and u pick it up and say "abbu uncle akram ka phone hai" and abbu says in a whisper" unn ko bolo abbu gher per nahi hai"

gotta practice what u preach....when parent ask kids to stop swearing they gotta stop swearing among themselves and with other adults too....

Re: kids and swearing

awww - i think thats so cute :cb:

Re: kids and swearing

nia, its so 1990s. Not cute. :p

As far as this is concerned. Words are words. I like to cuss cause I like the way some of the words sound when you say them. Also, there are so many more important things you should be teaching your kids and worrying about. Presuming that you know best how to raise someone elses kids should be the least of our worries.

Re: kids and swearing

parents these days ... I swear!

Re: kids and swearing

I think we should think more carefully about every word we use rather than just focusing on the curse words. Yes it is bad when someone swears but look deeper, its usually not what the person meant to say ...its just the careless selection of words......n at times its just like a reflex action

IMHO we should focus more on careful selection of words like I always tell my kids to say 'I don't like it' or 'I dislike it' instead of 'oh i hate it'

Re: kids and swearing

swearing is bad be it in front of parents or kids or outsiders :)

Re: kids and swearing

Its WRONG and RUDE. NO EXCUSE.
