Kidney Stones

So the husband gave birth to ‘Sharon’ 4 years ago. Then later, the same year, I had a big fat one that had to be surgically removed. Since mine was sent to the lab, we came to know it was a calcium oxalate one. Urologist advised drinking 2L of water a day and that there are some foods that are high in oxalates that should be consumed in moderation. Other than that, we were told that once you get them, you can again…and again…and that they are more common than we ever knew and the most common cause is lack of sufficient water consumption.

2 years after the above, I had another, but smaller episode. And as we speak, the husband, 4 years after the first one, is going through another. We were in the ER last night and he was sent home with pain meds and a few other meds to help with the passing of the stone.

Please share your personal experiences (if any) or any valuable suggestions/advice you may have so we can all benefit.

PS: The current stone, once “delivered” will be named Karen, to rhyme with Sharon.

Re: Kidney Stones

I hope TLK is okay, and that Karen’s arrival is not too much trouble. :bummer:

I’m sorry I have no advice/experiences to share. Sorry to hear you both are suffering from this.

Re: Kidney Stones

SO2, I've been alright, and hopefully with my crazy water drinking habits after the 2nd episode, I will not have too many more issues. Let's hope the same for TLK also.

Re: Kidney Stones

my mother used to make and give Barley water to my maternal grand father and it used to help him alot ! Google about it and you will get tons of article on benefits of barely water for kidney stones.

I hope you and TLK bhai feels better soon !

Re: Kidney Stones

Water is the best thing. But keep in mind the type of water you drink. Where I live, they say the tap water could cause a build up leading to kidney stones. If that is case, do use a water filter or use bottled water.

Re: Kidney Stones

diamond, thanks! I'm all well. Right now it's just TLK who is battling the stone. I'll read up on barley water.

OYMWA, yes true. We have been drinking filtered water for years, and since the last year, bottle water as our filter broke and we just got too lazy to buy another one.

Re: Kidney Stones

Hope tlk feels better.

Re: Kidney Stones

awww....I hope tlk bhaiyya feels better soon and Karen makes her entry fast.....no experience in this matter so i'll just send some good mojo y'alls way

Re: Kidney Stones

Congratulations on hearing/Sorry to hear about TLK’s 2nd kidney baby. Some people are just prone to getting kidney stones. Have you guys thought about maybe switching your diets around, avoiding foods that can be more prone to developing stones. This link explains really well which foods should be avoided based on what kind of kidney stones are found

Edit: I’ve heard something about apple juice, or apple cider, or apple cider vinegar and dissolving the stones. Can’t remember what exactly it is though.

Re: Kidney Stones

omg…feel so bad for both of you…more for you cuz I can imagine what he must be like when he’s in pain… :cb:
seriously though, there is a faint memory of someone mentioning something about kidney stones and some remedy that is only available in India.
I think it was faizy. Let me ask him and get back to you.

Re: Kidney Stones

here's the reply from faizy.....I'm copying exactly what he wrote to me:

"Indian made systone or cystone red bottle yellow cap or yellow font."
"Ok general search indicated: cystone with c. now made by himalaya in india, green cap white bottle green font. I checked ebay, its available from india for canada. herbal supplement so cbsa won't stop it. if you can find big enough pharmacy or walmart or gnc, its also made by swanson."

got it?

Hope he has a speedy recovery, Amin.

Re: Kidney Stones

I have heard, drinking lemonade can also help with kidney stones. my brother had it long time ago and he was advised to drink lots of water and lemonade as well.

Yeah mere bachchay ke baaray main kyaa baatain ho rahee hain yahaan

Re: Kidney Stones

How do you determine the gender of your kidney stones?

Re: Kidney Stones

Haha!! Thank you all for your duas and suggestions.

Ess Emm, yes, when we first had them, we had detailed counseling sessions with our urologists and a ton of info was given and presented. And the link you've posted is what I refer to as well. We try to eat a well balanced diet, low in oxalates, but we slack off on the water part which is the MAJOR change we need to bring in our lives given that we are prone to making these stones.

Bella, yes, lemonade but without sugar or salt.

Muzna, thank you!! I understood :D! I will look into it. Would be worth a shot!

Redvelvet, I guess I got 2 daughters and I'm partial towards girls so I gave the stones a female gender too :/

Re: Kidney Stones

Khatti, yes, waiting!!

Re: Kidney Stones

Oh and I think Karen delivered. :smack: We think she did because he’s been pain-free and without meds today, so thank you all for your prayers, but more prayers are welcome

Re: Kidney Stones
