Button Urdu ka lafz hay , angraizoon nay chura leeya. Like they stole , laltain as lantern , timatar as tomato ,
Payejama as pajama , botal as bottle , etc etc.

yes, it is a Farsi word. in spite of the fact that Urdu has almost 60% of it's vocab borrowed from Farsi zabaan, it's also true and safe to say that NOT all the Farsi vocabulary and/or it's variant are in Use in Urdu. so, it's possible that you may have NOT read/heard a variant of the word in Farsi. it may very well be a 'matrook' lafz in that language.
i've been told that there is now a Farsi jadeed is spoken by the masses as opposed to the traditional zabaan. one example is this:
**** traditional Farsi: Haal-e-shumaa cheest?****
jadeed Farsi: cheh taurii?****
right?**
btw, i've given you a she'r by 'allaamah Iqbal in support of the usage of the word "tukmah/tukmeh" in Urdu literature.

I hope you don't misunderstand, by no means am I arguing that he (or I) had the correct answer to the question.
Haal-e-shoma chitori vs chitori is an example of rasmi vs guftaari. One is written while the other one is just a more casual spoken way of asking the same thing.. Kind of like saying kiddan in punjabi.
Urdu is more influenced by the Persian coming from the Afghanistan area more so than the Iran. (this is just an opinion, but I'm fairly sure it's right).
A good example might be the use of thank-you. Most Iranians will tend to say mersi or kheli mamnoon but you wouldn't here an afghani say mersi since it's french. I think they tend to say tashakur.
But this is just an idea about the difference, and someone could just say I'm wrong and then I'd look like a big idiot o.o

i'm glad that you know the Farsi zabaan which is sooooo sweet...my Dad used to sometimes write poetry in Farsi...he was an Urdu poet basically!**
