Re: Khwateen Digest
If you ask for my honest opinon, almost all the writers in the digest are mediocre at best. Yes, that includes everyone’s favourite Umera Ahmad as well. I have read a lot of her short stories and novels, but they are written very poorly. Yet, most of them are very popular and became huge hits as t.v. serials. I don’t believe that popularity necessarily means quality. I have to say one thing though, her characters are very strong, though ‘psychotic’ and extremist. They are either very good and pure, or else pure evil.
I think that’s another point that I should have mentioned, in a Khawateen Digest (or for that matter any digest of that type) everything and everyone is black and white. Those who are good are very, very good, and those who are bad are rotten. (Like that old nursery rhyme)
Yes Umera is quite repetitive in her themes and story telling techniques. She always uses flash backs in her stories be in MZZB, La hasil, etc. I even found her Peer e Kamil an average work.
