Khushboo ka Ghar

Is anybody else watching this drama?

It is really heart breaking, but I appreciate the fact that Asif Raza Mir and his team are making realistic dramas on topics people are too afraid to discuss (rape, child molestation, alcoholism, etc.).

This drama is about a happily married couple with 4 young children. The father passes away and that’s when the real story begins. What is the life of a widow with small children in Pakistan? Her own in-laws are ready to steal from her. Everybody wants to either use her, turn her into a prostitute, take her house away, kidnap her children … and if she doesn’t do what they want, they trash her all over the community. She doesn’t give in, but the constant fight will eventually take her life.

It is very difficult to watch this, but I do anyway. Overall message is that you are supposed to treat yateem bachay and widows with a lot of love and care - not tear them to shreds and steal from them, eventually destroying them.

I know the mother is going to die and the kids will be scattered … it is heart breaking. She has no support from anywhere. Nobody wants to help her.

This drama has hit a nerve in my house. My mother watches it, but it also makes her very depressed seeing how she and her children are treated by the relatives.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

i watched a few episodes may be like 10. it was going well but somehow i couldn't keep up. will start it again.but i didn't like the mom(faisal's wife)

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

I watched it from day 1.......up until episode 59. I liked it for the reasons you stated, however, the story was getting bit stalled. The kids grow up and then the story revolves around them.

It's up to episode ninety something , so some day when I'm bored, I will continue where I left off.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

this is probably the only soap that i watch every episode...ofcourse i started at like episode 60..lol..missed the entire begiinning of it.
but i love watching it..its a great drama and i hope Aimen gets what she wants at the end

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

Is anybody watching this at all???

I caught up on all the episodes online. I’m up to date with Pakistan right now. In Canada, we are up to the part where the mother (Shaila) passes away leaving the 4 kids in the guardianship of her relatives (they split the kids up) … whereas in Pakistan, the kids are all adults and we get to see what is happening …

You have to be really emotionally strong to handle this drama. While watching this at work, I had to keep going to the bathroom to cry my eyes out … and then come back and watch the rest of it.

I came across a very good blog entry on this drama.

I must admit I don’t always have patience for Pakistani soaps OR Rukhsana Nigar’s black-and-white characterization (read, Lamha Lamha Zindagi / Meray Charagar). However, I have been really, really touched by Khushbu Ka Ghar mainly because the story is very different. Also, as I am a parent myself, I have really learned a lot of things from this soap, which I would now like to share.

For those who do not follow it, the story follows the happy and contented lives of Sikander and Shehla, and their four children. However, a disaster awaits the four kids as first their father and then mother pass away. Each of their relatives assume guardianship of one child. The siblings are separated and this emotional turmoil continues till they reach adulthood. We have Aiman who deeply resents the fact that the four are separated and wants to reunite them; there is Abeera who is more docile and sacrificing. Then there is Fizza who is a mixture of both, and Ahmed who has been pampered to death by his phuppo.

It is heart-wrenching to watch the misfortunes and deprivations of these four children, and the way their relatives exploit them and give preference to their own children. It is also very satisfying to watch the relatives getting a good taste of “what goes around comes around”.

So, back to the topic: what are some of the vital lessons parents should learn from this?

  1. Try to stay away from long-term interest-based loans/mortgages

In the drama, Sikander has bought a house after taking a loan. After his untimely death, Shehla has to repay the loan. And after she dies, the relatives are burdened with it. I strongly feel all parents should think twice before taking out such huge loans. Life is unpredictable. We don’t know how long we will live. Why pass on the burden to our children? Repay all your loans and purchase only what your budget allows.

  1. Make a will – now

Again, life is unpredictable. It is always best to draft a proper will, notarize it and have a copy filed with your lawyer. Among other things, your will should clearly mention WHO will get the guardianship of your children and who is supposed to take care of the property/assets belonging to them till they grow up and assume responsibility of the same. It should also mention how your outstanding loans have to be paid (which asset should be sold, in other words).

  1. Open a joint bank account with your children

Many banks today offer the facility of opening a bank account jointly with a child. Avail that and make sure you deposit enough money in it to ensure that even if the kids are orphaned early, they can utilize these funds in future for their education. Teach them (especially if they are 10 years or above) how to withdraw money from a bank, use online banking, use debit cards, etc. Make them money-wise early on. In Khushbu Ka Ghar, it is evident that the children have no money of their own even when they have grown up.

  1. Invest wisely

Invest your money in something that will give a sure-fire return in the future. Make sure you list your children as beneficiaries.

In short, one must realize the unpredictability of life and take appropriate measures. Somehow, we perceive death as something that happens only to others. This soap is an eye-opener and I do hope all parents will learn something from it.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

This sounds like a really interesting drama... is it based on a novel or something? I think I'd prefer reading it rather than trying to get through 90+ episodes...

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

Each episode is only 20 minutes long. I think the story is based on a novel. Someone already told me how it will end. :(

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

whats the ending?

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

Is this drama ending? When? What happens at the end? Sorry for all the questions!

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

I think it will end next week.

Is anybody here watching it? Gosh, I cried so much the past few episodes. :frowning:

This drama has received some well deserved support from the Pakistani public. Storyline hits home for many viewers.

Kudos to the actors and producers/directors. Received highest rating ever in Pakistani history last week.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

I loveeeeeee this drama......it's such a sobfest though
I haven't seen from thr beginning, just when the kids grew up....but wow this is the only soap I follow religiously.....it's sooo good! Everyone should watch it. And I am glad they got the recognition they deserve.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

How do you know it will end nect week?

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

In the Urdu novel, the story ends a few pages after what happened on Monday's episode. So we are near the end.

You should watch it from when the kids were little and what their mother had to go through.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

i feellike its too late to start from beginnig since i know whats going on now....
but my cousin says the begining episodes were the best ones...maybe i will start watching it since i wont have to wait for 20 minutes episodes everyday! lol
plese tell me there will be a happy ending!!...poor aimen =(

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

Okay, I have got to watch this one now after hearing so many good reviews. I actually watched the first few episodes when it started, but then quickly gave up because it was a daily and these tend to go on forever. So if its almost ending, maybe I will pick up from where I left off ..

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

^ u must...= =)

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

I absolutely hate what they have done to this drama. Once the "book" version of the drama concluded, they changed directors and are now making the story up from where the book finished in order to continue the show on t.v. Very disappointed. :(

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

omGGG wth is going on please expplain
did this all happen in the novel??? and why is haris such a physcopath

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

no, the novel ends with Fiza's burial.

Re: Khushboo ka Ghar

so they never showed a shaadi?
then how come they changed it and now its actually falling offtrack...when something gets famous they keep dragging it
chalo achi baat hai, they will lose all viewership
