Just came into my mind, 'kanyadan' is an important factor in Hindu marriages. In the presence of such concepts, how come a traditional Hindu marriage (not court marriage) can be kept a secret?

My understanding of Kanyadan is that parents of both groom and bride to be involved. Though Muslim Nikah also requires permission of wali of bride...
