Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Ah I read yours, interesting, have to see what the fuss is about, and what the 'controversy' is really over.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

In its 3rd week, a print is being added in Karachi and the film is set to open up in still more cities across Pakistan. It's going to create a record of sorts of it makes 3 crores in 3 weeks!

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

wow, thank you for the update on Shehnaz Sheikh sir. this is the first piece of news about her in the longest time.

it's too bad that she doesn't want to act any more. if you run into her again, please convey to her the good wishes of her many, many fans. her fans (like me) still haven't forgotten her. I was a kid when I saw Tanhayian (was one of the first plays I saw) and ever since, I've been in love with Shehnaz. she is a tremendous, tremendous artist. and we all miss and love her. I hope I have a chance of meeting her once and telling her how much she's meant to her fans. I always joke with family that I will be the one to get Shehnaz out of her self-imposed retirement.

regarding the book, I think it's a brilliant idea. it will be a treat for PTV drama fans like me. I assure you that I will be buying a copy. so, please complete it soon and post here when it is out in the market. would love to get my hands on it.

Unkahi, Uncle Urfi and Khuda Ka Basti (the original - not the terrible remake on Geo) are some of my favourite plays especially Unkahi. Saleem Nasir was hilarious in that play. in my book, he ranks as Pakistan's greatest actor. he had tremendous range. I had difficult believing that it was Saleem Nasir when I saw him play Captain Sarwar Shaheed in Nishan-e-Haider. it was such a radical departure from Mamoon in Unkahi and Akbar in Angan Terha. he was a giant amongst us mere mortals. it's sad that he had to leave us so soon. it's true when they say that the best of us leave early - too early.

many giants of Pak drama have left us in recent times including Jamshed Ansari, Subhani Bayounis, Azra Sherwani, Mohsin Ali. I read Hasina Moin's tribute to Mohsin Ali when he passed away - it was very touching and sad. I'm not sure if these artists know about much we (the awam) really love these artists and when they leave this world, it feels like a very dear friend, a part of us has left us.

I have Khalida Riaysat's Parosi (probably one of her last plays) on DVD. she was a virtuoso performer. one of the very, very best that Pakistan produced. similarly, Roohi Bano - one of the very first plays I saw was a long play starring Roohi Bano, Khursheed Shahid, Firdos Jamal and Tauqeer Nasir. it must have been almost twenty years ago now but I still remember it clearly because it struck me in a way few things have. it was a shock to hear of Roohi's illness and then her son's sad demise when you consider how many people absolutely adore and love her. how can people who are loved so much by so many suffer so much?

I have a dream to one day open a center of excellence for performing arts (like NAPA) and dedicate it to the memory of my heroes like Saleem Nasir, Shehzad Khalil, Khalida Riyasat, Subhani Bayounis, etc. these people and their memories deserve a lot more respect than what they are given. we are ever ready to celebrate ordinary outsiders but forget our own giants and heroes. maybe I'll be able to rope in Shehnaz to be involved with the center in some capacity. :)

lastly, please post here when your book is completed. I'd love to buy a copy as I'm sure would many other Pakistanis. the plays you mentioned form the golden age of Pakistani drama and many of us treasure and miss those days. that time period was magical and very little of it is documented. it needs to be documented and preserved because it was the height of artistic excellence. we are lucky to have witnessed art of that quality on our screens.

thank you for your time and posts. they are much appreciated. :)

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

^ get a life.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

I don't think it does any of that. It just tries to explain why things are the way they are.

Of course, the bias is probably leaning towards encouraging people TO NOT go off and start suicide bombings and go off fighting in Afghanistan in a jihad. But then no sensible muslim would oppose this, right?

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Well aslong as he isn't presenting his own version of Islam, he can do watever he wants. Still those comments against JJ were pretty ignorant and childish.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

JJ telling everyone to stop listening to music because its haraam is pretty silly and childish. Hence the inspiration for the movie. But I think it seems to touch upon more serious issues than whether music is haraam or not.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

^ No issue in Islam is greater or lower than the other, every issue has a direct/indirect effect on the other. If JJ is promoting something good and out of the traditions of the man we claim to love (Prophet pbuh) then its not silly and childish, as you can see then who those statements are directed towards..

I asked in the other thread too, for the sake of discussion, why dont they spend the millions spent on this movie, to feed hungry children in pak?

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

I can ask the same of the Lal Masjid goons who took up the nation's economy for a full week and whose effects have now caused massive deaths and more economic turmoil for honest Pakistani citizens due to increased suicide bombings.

If this movie can help change that mindset and stop people from doing gunda gardi in the name of Islam, then its money well spent.

God knows that the local Imams, and Islamic scholars have failed in this department.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

^ yeah um, secrets to a building a prosperous state were given 1400 years ago. We dont need a man lacking knowledge in Islam to reveal his 'solutions' to us.

Rather the movie should be made on how we deviated from those guidelines given to us to be an ideal state, how the government and the people (some of them) have totally changed the religion of Islam and are now escapegoating their failure on people who were formed to fight the govt in the first place! With the worst god forbidden tactics (Suicide bombings). This should be shared by them, and the people (govt, etc) who initiated events to lead up to this devastation in pak.

Ponder why Pakistan was created in the first place, perhaps then it would be money well spent.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

You don't think there should be public projects on getting people to understand that we shouldn't be picking up guns and hurting innocent people to solve all our problems?

Ok...

Watch the movie, then speak. Your mind is already set against it and you haven't even watched it.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)
