Nadia21,
I was going to pass on this one after "Hindustan ki Kasam". I thought that Amitabh had his best film in years in Sooryvansham, but I guess I'll re-engage on my decision to write-off Amitabh after HkK.
I recently saw Wajood. Nana was amazing in that film.
so nadia what actually it is about?
I want you ask one special question and that is
"arent you fed up with new amitbh movies?"
I mean how many times he said "this movie is last movie i am participating" And worse he still love acting like a young angry man. He should and recently did take older kind of role like father or grandfather.
Khurrum
good on ya mate
but honestly you wont be disappointed …
if u tend to skip the storyline and see the Preformance of the two specially Nana …

Shamus,
I had been fed up with "new" Amitabh movies after "Akhiri Raasta", which I thought was his last really good films.
Some of his other films like Agneepath, Khuda Gawah, Akayla, Hum, (all of which his performences were superb), could have been good films if it wasn't for the long drawn out endings, that force you to forward around about 30 minutes of fights.
However, he is still one of the top actors in Bollywood, and he blew me away with his perfomrence in Sooryvansham. It's too bad that the ending was blotched in that film as well. But really that's no different than the usual Shah Rukh Khan film where he has to get his face beaten to a pulp, and than amazingly beat up every one around (the only low point in "Dilwale Dulanya Lage gai").
The two main objections everyone has about AMitabh is the age of his heroines and the age of the characters he is portraying.
However, my main objection is more to do with having him to be a superman/cartoon character in every film.
While, I do agree that he should take on roles more in accordance with his age. But I think that this may have more to do with East Indian culture and movie goers who want to see a young hero, winning over a young girl.
No one has objected to Cary Grant, or Humphrey Bogart starring opposite a young Audery Hepburn (Charade, Sabrina). Or Sean Connery starring with Catherine Zeta Jones. THe differnce is that those actors had oppertunity to play older men wooing younger women. I don't think that this oppertunity exists in Indian cinema. The closest case was Lamhe, where Anil Kapoor (who's real age was probably close to the heroine's - Sri Devi- possibly even younger), was portraying a charcter who was supposed to be old enough to be the father of the heroine. However, while Lamhe was a fantastic film, and is my favorite film since Deewar, the film flopped at the box office.
Even if you go back to the fifties, you had heroes like Dilip Kumar, while in his fifties , opposite young actresses, but still playing the role of a young man.
So, while I think it is easy to criticize Amitabh for not playing roles more suitable to his age, I think the fault lies more in the expectation of movie goers, and the writers/directors.
What I would criticize Amitabh for, is some of terrible choice of films (ie. Jadugar, Shenshah, Insaaniyat, and recently Hindustan ke Kasam). The problem with his movies is more a problem of choosing lousy scripts, and believable characters.
