so i was thinking that i’d travel from khi to islamabad by coach or train…
i dont really fancy a train, but i think a coach can be acceptable…
just want to make the journey as an adventure…
what is better: bus or train?
is it safe?

Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
I never travelled through bus from KHI to ISB, but by train yes & its long long time ago. Check if Daewoo goes from KHI to ISB then it might be interesting.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
I dont know about this route, but I would suggest you take the train because you can relax and walk around in train, not in a bus. Its a long way from Isb to Khi. You certainly dont want to sit in one seat throughout that safar.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Train all the way. You can walk up and down, meet people etc. In a bus you'll just sit cramped and unable to do anything. Khi - Isb is a long journey and you will appreciate the freedom of moving around. Plus at every stop you have those lilttle kids selling boil eggs and cups of chai through the windows :D
Seriously bus doesnt even compare to train. If you want an adventure, train it is.
Re: khi ↔ isb (via bus)
in this blistering heat who ever craves for boiled eggs and tea…
i was asking cuz i know my cousins came from islamabad to khi by train but were fed up of the journey and then went back by bus…
is there any special train which is better or more comfortable than others???
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Blistering heat? You think the journey will be over in a day? Wait till you face the chill of the night and early mornings. Bus maybe faster but there definitely is no adventure in it.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
shall i board tezgam then????
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
^ book the AC compartment.
I dont know about karachi but I travelled to Quetta froM ISb 2 yrs ago on train. THey have these new chinese compartments, which are really comfortable and nice.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Is Shalimar Express still going? if yes thats recommended.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
This topic brought back all those memories, "haanday, garam haanday...". Hahaha.

Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
I think there is a special express train from khi to isb, which is very modern and comfortable (sponsored or desigened by chinese company?). Once in kharian i've seen the train coming from karachi and it looked different than the normal pakistani local train.
They say this Express just has some important stops and so it doesn't take that much time...
So do try this train and tell us how your journey was...

My information is definitely outdated, but I think Shalimar only goes between Lahore and Karachi.
armughal, as others have said, I'd recommend a good comfortable train ride, compared to bus. You want adventure, but you do want to end up at your destination in one piece as well. Additionally, I don't think I'd suggest a bus route to anyone going through interior Sindh. Book AC Sleeper in a reasonable fast train between Khi and Islamabad and you can enjoy the whole country-side views, with reasonable comfort, food and exposure to many small and big towns where the train will make a stop.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Actually why don't u break the train journey in Lahore and take a bus from there to Isloo. That way you get to see the new highways too.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Hey my friend take the Dawoo bus too Lahore from Islamabad and then Take NITE COAH or KARAKARM EXPRESS TO KARACHI the AC Section belive me you will be more relaxed and i personally think take NITE COACH ( KARACHI EXPRESS) this train stops a little more then KARAKARAM but not too much just a perfect senario buddy you wil see new places and you will like them.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Thing about train is every station is a new story. If i were in a mood for adventure i wouldnt take the express. I'd take the one with most stops. You will literally see a different culture and a different world at every stop. Sample the foods on every stop and no two places will ever be alike.
It's also easy to make friends on the train. Last time i was going with my family we ended up talking all the way with another family that was either coming or going to/from Iran and they were somehow taking the train as connecting transit.
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
thanx a lot guys for very valuable input....
i think i'll have to go to karachi and then see what train options r available....
someone else too mentioned that shalimar moves between lahore and karachi, with no stops....
but i think i'd prefer more stops over a fast non-stop express....
i really do not mind how much time it takes....
unless ofcourse, my wife decides to come along too....
also someone has advised me that if i want an enjoyable journey i'd rather stik to 1st class rather than the sleepers or the ac sections, cuz that wud limit interaction to a very few ppl....
Re: khi ↔ isb (via bus)
Tezgam is the only train which operates between Karachi to Peshawar. But journey on Tezgaam will surely make you the most unhappiest man on the earth. Don’t do that!
Take Karakaram or Night coach. Karakaram has 4 stops and Night Coach has 6. But both are for Karachi-Lahore-Karachi. You will be better to travel through Daewoo bus service to get Islamabad from Lahore. And to make it a bit interesting, travel in Lower AC in train, that will solve your heat, dust and noise problem but you will still have experience of interacting with other passengers. Best of luck

Re: khi ↔ isb (via bus)
armughal: If you want to browse through all the train options, visit http://www.pakrail.com There you can also check whether there are seats on a particular train on a particular day.
I have travelled from Karachi to Islamabad and back by train many, many years ago. I’ve done the Karachi-Lahore trip on the Karachi Express recently though, which was quite ok.
And yeah: The most comfortable way to travel from Karachi to Islamabad is still the plane. ![]()
Re: khi <-> isb (via bus)
Armughal
Best option is train, millat express to faisalabad and then islamabad by Daewoo.
Quickest and very comfortable.
