Khatem-Quran for the dead

I am originally from Afghanistan and I am a Sunni Muslim.
My father died 30 yrs ago when I was a toddler. I have never done a Khatem-Quran for him.
I would like to do a Khatem-Quran for him during the ramadan. I can’t read all of the Quran in Arabic.
I have audiotapes which recite the Quran in Arabic. Can I use the tapes to do a Khatem – Quran for my father. Will it be still valid? I will still try to read the Quran but use the tapes as I am reading.
I know I can have others help me do this. But I would like to do this on my own for my father. Please advice as to how I can proceed.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

You will get more jaza if you put this effort of listening from the tapes and reading off it. may allah grant your father best place in jannat and take your effort and bless him 1000 folds with that.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

sure you can, people do this (listening and following it to read at the same time) to avoid mistakes in pronunciation

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

^ Agreed with Both Above Comments

and the Benefit that you will get via listening is that you will come to know exactly the way it is supposed to be recited

that is to say : Read Quran with Tajweeed .

so The Audio ( assuming they are from a well Know Qari ) will help you get that rhythm and exact pronunciation.

Good Luck

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

as-salam alaykum

because you can read some of the quranpak in arabic, now if you wish to you can learn to read the rest very easily online. theres many free courses available.

and if you do learn to read the quranpak and do finnish the quranpak you are completing a farz for your parents

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

Read Quran as much as you can and if you have siblings and mother, ask them to do so too. Sawab does not reach your father if other people like ur friends etc read it.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

I can read a quran and bakhsho it to a non-relative. That person will get the sawaab but because my heart will be more in it if I do it for my dad, more sawaab, plus the sawaab from the fact that I am becoming sadaqa-e-jariya for him (being a good son), will reach him.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

This is a very common misconception among Muslims.

That is the only sawab that reaches the dead. The only other thing that helps the dead is Dua.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

aray nahi yaar. Its a common practice that when people do Quran-khwani, they first send blessings to Prophet :saw2: and then through his waseela, to other momineen. Now one can argue that Prophet does not need our khatmul quran but its done and approved by scholars.

Now what is going to happen to a person who was the last survival of his family. Once he is gone, are you saying that no one can do a khatmul quran for him anymore?

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

Ulama-karam have always been of the opinion that sawab does reaches the dead no matter who offers it.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

Aray Han yar! Being common does not make the practice correct.

Yes exactly! Only Sadaqa jariya reaches him and Dua, nothing else.

Our "Ulama-karam" say many things, don't follow anyone blindly.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

I guess there is vast majority of Muslim scholars who does support reading Quran for the dead and virtures do reach the dead one. I dont see any harm in doing so. you can do GOOD as much as you want. there should not be any limitations to that.

We read Durood for Prophet MOhammed (SAW) also. Its clearly orderd from Allah SWT.

If I am not wrong, I read somewhere sometime back that Prophet MOhammed (PBUH) advised to read Surrah Yaseen for the dead when u visit the grave.

What is that hadith, about those three things which sawaab will reach to the dead always... 1 Naik Aulaad, 2- Sadqa ??? 3- ?????

btw here in UAE, the mosque where Sultan Bin Al Nahayan is burried, there is always one person beside the grave who reads Quran for him 24/7. Quran khawani at his grave never stops.

Re: Khatem-Quran for the dead

The Hadith is as follows: When a human being dies, all his actions come to an end, except in one of three ways: A continuing act of charity, a useful contribution to knowledge or a God-fearing, dutiful child who prays for him.

That's a dua. You should read the translation.

I don't see how your provided info justifies this act?

Well biddat usually is "GOOD". As I said Muslims scholors say many things. Jitnay mu utni baten. You don't have to look to them if you only look to a single person and that is our Prophet (SAW). Tell me have you ever read anywhere that Muhammad (SAW) ever gathered his sahaba for a khatam Quran? For his infant son Ibrahim, for any of his wifes who died in his life time? For any sahabi who died during his life?
