khatam over food.....

when we have khatams, im sure many households, also read over food…, now my husband and my mum are more well informed in regards to this and say its not needed, and food shouldnt be readover…its not a requirement, as the prophet pbuh, didnt do it…etc.

however my husband and mum dont know much else and why it isnt…and i wanted references for the sake of relatives who do khatams with food, we also used to do it, but since mum found out, she doesnt. but no one else listens and when mum said it, softly, to the person, the person just said oh its tradition so we just do it..no one actually knows the reason why we pray over the food…

any citations/references please?

The Practice of Khatam has absolutley NOTHING to do with Islam, and is an evil Bidaa that has spread amongst the Muslims. Remember: If the Prophet Muhammad (s) and his companions never did it, we dont do it. This spreaded among the Pakistani & Indin Muslims and they do this as a ‘Tradition’ or whatever they call as ‘Chaliswan’, ‘Dulhan ki rukhsati pr chawal phenka’, nay ghar pr anse se pehlay tail (oil) phenkna or pani (water) plana sub shataan ke kaam hain. We all should help needy pplz who deserve must be given food.

Hazrat Omar :razi: said: If a dog dies hungry on the banks of the River Euphrates, Umar will be responsible for dereliction of duty.

So the best thing if some1 easily can arrange ‘Khatam’ He/she should distribute amongs neigbours, needy peoples, orphans and widowed persons.

Allah SWT put of all of us Sirate-Mustaqim

Re: khatam over food.....

^ Khatam is for needy, poor ppl and neighbors. What else is it for? Do we eat all the food ourselves???? if so then thats wrong. Khatam is like doing khairat , giving alms. which is surely a very appreciated deed and not mere a tradition.
