I personally don’t think that it’s insulting, rather it’s the wife’s right…but some wives have khulla kharcha, meaning they have access to the joint accounts and such and aren’t questioned for what they spend, while others are on a strict budget…and while one may sound favorable and the other sounds unfavorable I think what it comes down to is if the couple discusses it..

I think every couple has their own system that works well for them. My mum and dad don’t have a joint account, my dad has always given a fixed ‘kharcha’ (which is ever increasing due to inflation). My mum has her own account in which my dad can make random deposits. Also the house we live in was bought and built by my dad but registered in mum’s name. So while my dad is generous with my mum it has never been khulla khata nanga nahata.
