shehryaar - interesting that you mentioned the ghazal. I was just listening to it the other day. :)
Actually, I think it was originally sung by Hamid Ali Khan. It's actually the first ghazal of Hamid Ali Khan's album named Intezaar. All the ghazals and poems in the album are written by poetess, Neelma Sarwar. I think she has a good ranking beaucratic job (I think it was Deputy Commisioner or something like that) in Pakistan. The music of the album is composed by Hamid Ali Khan.
I used to hear this album alot in winter 93. I have some very special memories linked to the music, the white snow out, and my pain-in-the-neck car.
Couple of my favorite ghazals in the album are
1- chaand khushboo gulab ho jaisey
hussn tera sharab ho jaisey
2- dekhtey he dekhte woh kaya se keya ho jaiy ga
aaj jo gul hay woh kal bus khakey pa ho jaiy ga
(absolutely wonderful ghazal)
4- Shahar mein apney thay saray, razdaN koi na tha
her taraf tapati zameeN the, saibaN koi na tha
Check it out, you will like the album. It was released in 1991 by Shalimar Recording Company (SRC). Serial number is 1020.
BTW, why did you call it a 'khamosh ghazal'?

Well, there is another ghazal in the same album which has sort of same somber connotation as this ghazal... nothing else comes to mind right now. But I think overall poetry by Neelma kind of have that touch.
