Re: Khalil Gibran

Me...

Re: Khalil Gibran

I have read an article on him, it was very inspiring.

Re: Khalil Gibran

Its actually Kahlil not Khalil... and ive been a fan since the past 14 years.

Re: Khalil Gibran

Lajawab, which work(s) one is your favourite(s)?

Although I like all of his writings 'The prophet' spiritual writings of Gibran are pure gems in my opinion. And come to think of it, he was not even a philosopher, he was a writer.

Re: Khalil Gibran

Yep, my bad Its just that I read him for the first time and the book was a translated one so it read khalil in urdu and though since then I try to make sure I write ‘Kahlil’, ‘khalil’ just slips out.

Re: Khalil Gibran

'I am a sound... uttered and repeated by the voice of nature' K.G

Sigh

My favourite works is Spirits Rebellious and the Wanderer though the prophet is one of the better known ones.

Love and Hate from the Wanderer:
A woman said unto a man, "I love you." And the man said, "It is in my heart to be worthy of your love."
Ant he woman said, "You love me not?"
And the man only gazed upon her and said nothing.
Then the woman cried aloud, "I hate you."
And the man said, "Then it is also in my heart to be worthy of your hate."

Re: Khalil Gibran

Whatever of Kahlil Jibran Kahlil, I have read is the courtesy of Hamdard Naunehaal :hehe:

I remember a piece at the moment from a mid 80’s Naunehaal:

Aik LoomRi naY subah kaY waqt apna sayaa dekhaa tau khud saY kahaa, “Aaj mujhaY naashtaY maiN OoNT milnaa chaahiye.”

Saaraa din woh OoNT kee talash maiN sargardaaN rahee. Dopaher kaY waqt jub uss kee nazar apnaY saaye par paRee tau boli: “Mera khiyaal hai, meraY liye aik choohaa hee kaafi rahai gaa.” :k:

Re: Khalil Gibran

i think its khalil....
he was an arab and he wrote his name as KHAY-LAAM-YAY-LAAM, and that is khalil and not kahlil and they read it in angrezi....

just finished reading his workd last week from that thick collection i bought last year (kuliyaat-e-khalil)....
his short stories r very good....
and if he did not write the ibn-e-aadam part, i'd think he's a muslim....

the best one i like among his workd is the one in which a thief complains to the king about getting his eye damaged in a theft attempt and how he appeals for justice....
it was titled WAR (jang in urdu)....
