Khala Kulsum Ka Kanba

Khala Kulsum Ka Kanba has got to be the funniest Pakistani seriel I have ever seen. Does anybody watch it? It’s on Ary on Saturday evenings, repeated Sunday mornings. The dialogue is simply hilarious … very witty.

It stars Shagufta Ijaz. She’s a brilliant actress. This has got to be her best acting thus far. The story primarily revolves around her and her family (mother, who is Khala Kulsum and two wayward, selfish brothers). The brothers are lazy, don’t work yet want to get married. Their sister (Shafugta Ijaz) does everything, house cleaning, cooking, etc. and she too wants to get married before her brothers but she’s kali so everyone (including her brothers) is always putting her down about her complexion, which leads to some entertaining cat-fights. She’s realistic about her situation which has made her bitter and frustrated at the community. She’s in love with her cousin, who also loves her back, but his mother hates her cause Shafugta is kali and from a poor family.

Khala Kulsum is stuck in the middle and can’t do much other than watch her sons run off with ‘kharaab’ larkiyan they have chosen for themselves and her daughter fighting with the brothers about their choice in women and how selfish they are. It’s quite funny … the interactions between the family members and the neighbours.

I love the dialoge the best. It’s really good. I highly recommend it.

It was good to begin with and I thought I might actually enjoy the play but as it moved forward, it got really really really really annoying :)

The 'kala' make up on Shagufta Ijaz looks very artificial and badly done! I wish they had actually taken someone of a darker complexion to play the character rather than putting on tons of make up on S.I. which ends up making a mockery of people who are dark skinned rather than helping alleviate the misconceptions about skin color that pakistani society has.

The colour make up looks so exaggerated which is what (to me) makes it so much more comical. I actually feel for her character more because of the severity of her darkness. I like the story. I think it's quite well done.

yah its quite hilarious at times..even though its names khala kulsum ka kuma..khala kulsum only watches her children doin stuff and very few times comes in..i like her youngest son..kinda cute :)..dialogue is funny too at time but all the females keep on repeating kamini kamina....its like plz find another bad word..

I like the word "thigni" which Bilquees uses for her to be sister-in-law .... I learned something new. :D

The show is funny but I can't get rid of the title song off my head. I am singing it unintentionally and its driving me nuts.

khala khala kulsum ka kumba
khala kulsum ka kumba

cheeeennn...(door opening)
ana tu isi gehr main haina kamini ne...

hehe that title song is funny

wicked show. :hehe:

I understand that they’re trying to exaggerate the colour makeup a little bit but it could have been just as funny if they hadn’t made her complexion as drastic.

either way, I’d heard about this play but didn’t bother getting it. but it is very funny. You can so tell that the story is set in Karachi. I’m very sure that the story will only get better because the two brothers get married to their sweethearts. Things can only get better for the audience after that.

Shugufta Ijaz is an amazing actress - one of Pakistan’s best. Jaweria Jaleel is very good as well especially for a young actress. very munjhee hui. :k:

I just watched this show...It is quite funny. Catfights are fun to watch...poor guys are gonna see the worst after they get married.

They aired this show quite a few yrs back in Pakistan, was quite popular then. Yeah, its funny alright and Shugufta Ejaz is a GOOD actress.

Very funny indeed. Used to come on PTV when I was there 3 years ago.
