Stuck up in severe traffic jam just on walking distance from office in car of our Boss, my colleague sitting besides me on back seat, tried to say something by moving his figures on a file in his lap. I didn’t understand his gestures. He text me ‘why don’t we go walking?’ After that he started looking outside window. I text him ’ For God sake! he is a gentleman and doesn’t want to leave his driver alone in this mess’ and turned my face toward window to control my laugh.
I don’t know what was the reason behind my bosses’ staying in car, but one thing I’m sure he doesn’t insult / misbehave with servants. BTW he is not a Muslim.
If we read prophet’s (SAW) life, he always treat and gave lesson for treating servants like your family. Give them same food you eat, provide them good clothing, is the lessons taught by Islam.
Now, coming to the issue, what with the mentality of so called Makhoodms (title of landlords from Syed families living mostly in Southern Punjab and Upper Sindh ) in our society, who treat their servants (khadims) very badly and consider humiliating them their first right. The farmers working on their lands are not allowed to sit on chair in presence of Makhdoom.. Their place in on floor in the feet of Makhooms, which symbolically says makhdooms are upper than Khadim.
I think Makhdoom was a sufi status and sufis never conveyed message of differences based on social status, but today's Makhdoom's took title as granted to humiliate the humanity. Their children went to foreign universities for education and they can't afford to have small schools in their constituencies, because this will change their status-qua.
Being from a Sayyed family myself, my family does not do any peeri mureedi. But I have a cousin whose father is a peer, he sometimes used to gargle and empty the water in the mouth of one of his mureed. Maybe to show the power of their family, these things never interested me though...
This is just an example and I’m sorry to say that there are some Muslims who even quote incidents that the Prophet himself did same things to show his miracles
Islam teaches equality, and not humiliating the down trodden.
Its the religion which gave Bilal (RA) a very important role. All the sufis which most the current peers claim to follow, also promoted equality and hence mass conversions in the region.

Remind of this meethay meethay islami bhai wala molvi.
