Aanchal, chill out girl.
Surprisingly, we posted about 25 posts, without once referring what Quran or Hadith says about this or similar matters. Can I put my two cents now?
Lets not confuse manners and rituals. Khuda Hafiz and Khattams have nothing to do with each other. Khuda hafiz is a Persian phrase (if I know it right) and was borrowed by people of sub continent in good faith. Its just like people from Punjab often says Rub Rakkha. On the other hand, Khattams are considered to be a ritual. As someone mentioned that its something which is practiced only in the sub-continent. Now to the actual matter.
Prophet (PBUH) said " "Whoever does anything that is not part of this matter of ours (i.e., Islam), will have it rejected."
Also in Quran, Allah says "
"O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger, and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination." [al-Nisaa' 4:59]
The best bet for us is to refer to Allah and his Messenger to see whether our act which represents Islam in any way is recommended or practiced by those whom we follow. If not then there is no need for that as we don't know whether it will lead us to safety or destruction. Prophet (PBUH) once said that "My sunnah is the safest passage for you", means that if you want to practice Islam in the safest way, just do it the way Prophet did and nothing more.
Let me quote one more Aya' and finish my post.
"... This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion..." [al-Maa'idah 5:3]
According to many scholars, this means that innovating things in Islam could be interpreted as meaning that Allaah did not complete the religion for this ummah, that the Messenger (PBUH) failed to convey to this ummah all that they should do, until those people came along later and innovated in the religion things that Allaah had not permitted, claiming that these were things that would bring them closer to Allaah.
Guys, I am not a scholar and please pray for my forgiveness by Allah if I said something wrong or misinterprated something.
