I dont see why he'd have perfume in his hand luggage, and even if he had he could have discarded it straight away.

I don't think "alcohol" would be a "prohibited" item specially in London. He could be carrying pair of scissors to cut his nose hair.

He states that he had 2 bottles of cologne in his hand luggage. They were checked but he wasn't stopped and nothing was removed from him.
