Is it possible to have it on your computer if no one has physical access to your computer? Even if you have antivirus/spyware like Kaspersky?
Also, is it possible to for someone to hack into your email account etc without having physical access to your computer? Can they do so without you ever knowing and without changing your passwords etc?
I’m not a techy person, please help!

Not just yes to the above but they could be sitting next to you in the room and actually be making edits to your facebook and twitter accounts without you knowing or touching your computer.

Also, how much information does a person need to have about me to get into my email or install a keylogger? Is a messenger conversation enough to give them the IP address etc

Using a messenger may not necessarily give them your IP.
Rule of thumb is to treat your information with care, don’t start clicking on any link that you see. Get to trust people first before opening up your heart to them. Just use caution.

Jojo, to put it simply, you are pretty much screwed. Asking how to protect yourself on the internet is like asking how to plug holes in Swiss cheese. People who want/intend to hurt you will find a way.

No, I don’t agree. That’s like telling people in general to not bother to lock your front door. Whoever wants to get in will get in anyway.
Most of the security measures that we follow is to stay protected from people who are residents of the civilized world, those who have been raised in normal (and I used this term loosely) environment.
Ofcourse, attempting to build a Fort Knox results in failure in the long run anyway.

Comparing internet with your front door is absurd. You lock your door, windows, backdoor, etc. even if you lock all these, if they have enough time, they can still get through them. Thats the whole point.
You may not have more than 10 people pass your house on any given week but you may browse hundreds and thousands of websites in any given week/month. So, your probability of being infected and compromising your security is greater and it really depends on how secure those websites are and everything else, including the people who visit those sites are interlinked.
Many people use same password all over the web so if GS were to get hacked, and jojo’s (and other users) password was decrypted, and used on her bank account or paypal account, it could result in a disaster and a huge security screw up.

That’s what I said. If they want to get in they will. That doesn’t mean you leave your front door open. Be sensible, keep up process and the locked door and don’t tempt people. Our target is to keep the honest person honest, not to make a rogue turn into a farishta.
