Kerry or Bush! Pak's military options

Well it looks like the race is too close to call. Here are some possibilities.

**If Bush wins-- **Pak army will continue getting support along the current lines. However Pak needs to be more creative for improving its strategic value across the globe. Afghanistan issue is merely a distraction for Pak army that can be much more influential in other parts of the world.

**If Kerry wins-- ** Kerry as per his first debate expressed his desire to be more inclusive. Does that mean he will invite Arab armies to support USA in Iraq? Or he would rely more on NATO and European Allies. That remains to be seen.

Kerry has expressed nuclear issue to be #1 on his global agenda. So far he is pointing more towards securing the stockpiles in Russia. What will happen if he wants to go beyond Russia? Pakistan needs to be a bit more prepared.

Democrats have not been that kind to Pakistan. There may be one option to keep US tilt towards Pakistan. This can easily be accomplished by offering Pak army to support Kerry’s efforts in Iraq and in Darfur.

In either case, Pakistanis need to be prepared. Instead of being passive (by waiting for Allah and Mullah), this is the time to be active in defining Pakistan’s role in the world.
