Kerry-Lugar Bill

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Issues of concern from the Bill: Hell I will just post 1

Section 203. Limitations on Certain Assistance: Hell I won't even type it out. Look at Paragraph C(i).

Hell just look at Section 203 completely. Now that is insulting.

Also the Dawn article on Myths and facts is utter bull****.

Again this pertains only to security aid ..... this has got no bearing on the civilian aid. Worst case scenario .... if Pakistan feels US is asking for soemthing that it wont comply .... just refuse ... all that is going to happen is, the "military" aid will be stopped. "Lekin yahin to mushkil hai" ..... come on would Pakistan army want that to happen .... while rest of Pakistan is getting the benefits of US aid they will loose out on it .... you see only THEIR is connected to this bill :D

The said clause for you in detail .... again nothig that Pakistan has not already pledged to international community

(1) the Government of Pakistan is continuing to cooperate with the United States in efforts to dismantle supplier networks relating to the acquisition of nuclear weapons-related materials, such as providing relevant information from or direct access to Pakistani nationals associated with such networks;

And it is not Limitation of "certain assistance" ... it is limitation of "Security " assisstance

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Doesn't matter what type of aid it is. The paragraphs are unacceptable.

Secondly read the Article. The official title is Limitation of Certain Assistance. Seriously....its right there. In black and white. Its should be pretty easy to read.

So you mean to say the pledges that Pakistan has made to interantional community ... if it is asked to act on those it is un accceptable to Pakistan !!!!

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

We will not bomb Quetta whenever asked to do so. Period.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Not relevant to the bill at all. Matters of national security are not going to be discussed in Washington.

It does not ask Pakistan to bomb Quetta ... it asks for dismantaling terror infrastructure in Quetta . Bascially asking it to stop providing support to Al qaeda, Taliban, Lashkar e Toiba and Jasih e mohamamd ...... now Pakistan has pledged to act against these groups so what is the problem !!!!!

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

^ If USA had 'high level intelligence', they would have been successful in Afghanistan till now.

There is a difference between 'stop providing support' and 'taking action when told'. Please read and then comment.

Here is the section … so tell me hasn’t Pakistan pledged to dirupt, dismantle and defeat Al qaeda … hasn’t Pakistan pledged to eliminate safe havens for such forces inside Pakistan … mind you … this is a report that is to be submitted by the Secretary of State and not a pledge by Pakista to get aid !!

(11) an evaluation of efforts undertaken by the Government of Pakistan to–

(A) disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Qaeda, the Taliban, and other extremist and terrorist groups in the FATA and settled areas;

(B) eliminate the safe havens of such forces in Pakistan;

(C) close terrorist camps, including those of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed;

(D) cease all support for extremist and terrorist groups;

(E) prevent attacks into neighboring countries;

(F) increase oversight over curriculum in madrassas, including closing madrassas with direct links to the Taliban or other extremist and terrorist groups; and

(G) improve counterterrorism financing and anti-money laundering laws, apply for observer status for the Financial Action Task Force, and take steps to adhere to the United Nations International Convention for the Suppression of Financing of Terrorism](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A294")](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A293”)](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A292”)](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A291”)](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A290”)](“http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A289”)]("http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-3642&version=ih&nid=t0%3Aih%3A288”)

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

^ It is not my problem if you cannot differentiate between section 203 [see post #21 {NOT #12} by CM] and section 302.

I did advise you to READ.

Here ... again .... no mention of bombing Quetta ...... but asking Pakistan against these groups .... and Pakistan has pledged to do it ...... Maybe you are refering to the section where it says to act when intelligence is provided about high lelve terrorist targets .... but then just today Pakisatn ambasssador was on CNN saying the same thing .... give us intelligence and we will take out terrorist ........ after all they are not asking you take out "freedom fighters" :D

(B) preventing al Qaeda, the Taliban and associated terrorist groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, from operating in the territory of Pakistan, including carrying out cross-border attacks into neighboring countries, closing terrorist camps in the FATA, dismantling terrorist bases of operations in other parts of the country, including Quetta and Muridke, and taking action when provided with intelligence about high-level terrorist targets; and

You can find many more ways to feel rich and put down Pakistan, but THIS IS NOT where American aid money went, believe me. Army kids have been going on scholarships for long time, this is not because of US aid.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

I think this was very aptly said.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

^ Ron Paul is usually very practical and connected but in this case he seems to have forgotten 9/11, Al Qaeda, terrorist camps and dirty bombs

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Captain usually it is best to just ignore PCG in the Political forums. Her posts usually lack insight and knowledge of what is going on.

Secondly aam banda you need to read. The discussion is about Article 203. Considering you couldn't read the title properly I am sure you can't read this post either. Anyway the point is simple and Kaka is right. Our policy decisions will happen in Pakistan. Not in the US. Regardless whatever some dumbass bill states.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

^ Control yourself.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Hey its true.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

I don't care what's true or not; don't insult me in a discussion.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

It is fortunate that we have an elected government so that we can atleast debate such issues. If we had a military dictator, he would have accepted the bill without even the nation being informed. We saw that with Mushy doing everything US wanted, including handing over Pakistani nationals to the US whom we now know as 'missing persons'.

Re: Kerry-Lugar Bill

Well said Kaka.
