KERRY: an 'ISRAELI' PRESIDENT FOR THE US ?

Kerry once said
QUOTE - US SENATOR KERRY: ''MY PRO-ISRAEL VOTING RECORD IS SECOND TO NONE." In the policy paper, which has not been released publicly, Kerry outlines clear, strongly worded positions on several issues important to the American Jewish community.

now what if this guy come to power in the USA
is the Israeli lobby so powerful in the US that even it influences the election of the president … what a pity for the “Super Power” of the world

=========================================

WASHINGTON – Senator John F. Kerry strikes a decidedly stronger pro-Israel position in a new policy paper than he did a few months ago, as he attempts to enlist the support of Jewish voters who have been gravitating to President Bush and away from their tradition of voting Democratic in presidential elections.

In the policy paper, which has not been released publicly, Kerry outlines clear, strongly worded positions on several issues important to the American Jewish community. He calls for more forceful action to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons, fully backs Israel’s construction of a 425-mile-long barrier between Israel and the Palestinian territories that the paper refers to as ''a security fence," and pledges to work to push for a new Palestinian political class to replace Yasser Arafat, who is called a ''failed leader."

Earlier in the campaign, Kerry got off to a shaky start with some Jewish groups. Last October he called the barrier – composed mostly of electronic fencing with razor wire and a ditch along a tracking road, but with some stretches made of concrete – a ''barrier to peace." The new paper says building it is ''a legitimate right of self-defense" and ''not a matter" to be taken up by the International Court of Justice, which has criticized the move.

Perhaps Sharon was offered the VP slot before Edwards?

And, Kerry as a Catholic from Boston is not likely to be beholden to the Israeli lobby. When you guys post these things, do you even think through what you are saying? Kerry doesn’t even toe the line for the Pope, with his views on abortion.

Israeli Wall & Nuclear Weapons: It is ''a legitimate right of self-defense"

Iran Nuclear Weapons: Prevent at all costs.

EOM

Well, his wife is Jewish, and perhaps that contributes to his alleged pro-Israel stance. But I'm not sure about that.

I think that no matter who comes into power, the US President will be at least somewhat pro-Israel. The major differences are in domestic policy, not foreign, I think.

"Well, his wife is Jewish,"

Oh my, panic and run around in circles!

Interfaith marriage is common in the US, but that will drive the Muslim world crazy eh? Maybe she is a Mossad sleeper agent?

Remember a while back there was a thread about whether Bush or Kerry would be better for Muslims. Despite the historical voting record of Jewish Americans voting Democratic as a block, part of that discussion was conjecture that Kerry would be harder on Israel than Bush. It will be fun to see whether the hatred of Bush or the hatred for Jews and Israel is a stronger motivating force in this election for some Muslims. (I DIDN’T SAY ** ALL ** MUSLIMS !!!)

By the way, wasn’t Howard Dean’s wife Jewish? I didn’t know that Kerry’s wife was also Jewish. What is happening to Christian male Democratic Presidential candidates??? Is the Jewish Lobby so strong in the USA that they can get their women to control the American President from the bedroom??? They must have given up on the VEEP office and are working on the post of first lady.

it's amusing sometimes to see the candidates for a US Presidency falling over each other trying to prove who's the bigger supporter/friend to Israel.

someday we'd get someone in office who's going to represent the people of United States instead... someday.

I think you people dig pretty deep to determine that US presidents run on a pro-Israel platform. I listen and read a lot of political news and for the life of me I don't recall any of the material covered relating to how the candidates will represent Israel.

It's just a deep ignorance of American Presidential politics and high degree of paranoia from the Anti-semites. Historically speaking, pandering to Israel by either side is hardly required in a Presidential election since both parties have accepted that the jewish voting block will vote Democratic.

This year is a little different in that the DEMS are a little fearful that higher percentages of jewish voters mayvote Bush in some key battleground states and that could make a difference. But that is hardly because of some newfound pro-Israel policy enunciated by Bush. It is and always has been US policy to support Israel in the face of Arab or terrorist aggression. No President (GOP or DEM) will change that policy.

What the paranoid little anti-Semites don't understand is that American voters want a President that puts America first. Anyone who puts Israel first will get a severe butt-whipping.

first, let me give you the reality of the political system here in America. Years ago, there used to be a great number of "contested" seats, and very few "safe" seats in the House and Senate. A safe seat is where you have to do something "wrong" to lose an election. Over the years incumbants have had a much higher chance of being reelected than in decades past. Never the less, elections have become more expensive. So here is how the Jewish lobby works:

1) They give campaign money to nearly every incumbent. This gives them "access". It does not mean you have bought a vote, but a significant contribution will assure you that for critical votes you will get an appointment, and that your view will be heard.

2) If there is a "suprise" winner of an election, frequently there will be a large campaign debt. Immediately after winning an election, big fund raisers will be held, to try to extingusish the debt. This is a good time for lobbyists to introduce themselves with a big check.

3) For "favorites", that is fervent pro-Israeli views, they will push for greater seniority and committee assignements. (Read Charlie Wilson's War for a frank description of this process).

4) Recently I ran across some very subtle and effective lobbying. My daughter's high school history class went to the Holocaust Museum in New York, by bus, all expenses paid! The Holocaust is the ultimate tool for explaining why Israelis believe Israel should exist. The more every American understands the Holocaust, the more general sympathy there is for Israel.

5) Like it or not, 9/11 was the best marketing tool ever for the Israelis. Now they can honestly say to us, "now you know terror as we have known terror." It is a message that is simple and appealing. Obviously this also has racist overtones, "See, now you know what THESE people are like. How can you ever have peace with PEOPLE who would do such things?" This is also a message that is very effective. Every suicide bomb reinforces this message.

6) In my experience, the Israeli lobby is well financed, well coordinated, and very effective. They play hard, but by the rules. They do not own politicians, they are simply very good at what they do.

The good news is that if Muslims can get their act together, they could have the same measure of influence on American politics. Frankly you all are getting your butts kicked, and all that bubbles up is whining about how Muslims are treated unfairly. This is defensive politics. Offensive politics would be to assemble a proactive agenda, and to have a plan that raises the awareness of politicians and the general public alike.

Oh, and I now believe that Theresa Heinz Kerry is a new twist on the "Manchurian Candidate"!

More later....

There is more to Israel than the Likud party and Wars R Us agendas. Why do Presidential candidates have to pander to one specific ideology within Israel?

Nader has assessed this candidate correctly.. A Puppet for Israel.

Now go call him an anti-semite too.. that’s the best argument shills can put forth anyway.

I remember hearing that muslims should vote for Bush in the last election, because Gores Vp was a jew

that advice turned to be really good ..

Nader is part Arab.

^^ so are 'genuine' Israelis.. counting out the Lithuanian imports..

There is no guaranatee that had gore been in office things would have been very different. Recall people complainign about clinton govt’s Iraq policy, lobbing missiles into pharma factories, and sanctions etc. If i recall right secret evidence and detentions had been going on then as well.

Ppl voted on what they thought was the best course of action at that point, and not all of it had to do with Vp’s religion. the political climate changed afterwards..Now I know that many ppl dont like rumsfeld, ashcroft et al but were people going ga ga over maddy albright, janet reno and william cohen?

The plot thickens!

John Kerry’s brother to visit Israel, will meet FM, Weisglass

By Aluf Benn, Haaretz Correspondent

Cameron Kerry, the younger brother of Democratic presidential nominee in the United States, Senator John Kerry, is expected to visit Israel next week.

He is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, the director of the Prime Minister’s office, Dov Weisglass, head of the opposition MK Shimon Peres, and others. Accompanying Cameron Kerry on his tour of the country will be Senator Kerry’s adviser on Israel affairs, Jay Footlik.

Cameron Kerry converted to Judaism when he married Kathy Weinman of Michigan, and later learned that his paternal grandparents were Czech Jews who had converted to Christianity before immigrating to the U.S.

Despite maintaining a low profile, Cameron Kerry is considered very close to his brother and heavily involved in his election campaign.

Kerry’s visit to Israel aims to strengthen ties between the Democratic candidate and Israel. Senator Kerry had asked to meet Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during his visit to Washington last April, but Sharon did not agree to the meeting, citing a scheduling conflict. At the time, Sharon was visiting Washington in order to receive assurances of U.S. President George Bush’s support for Sharon’s Gaza disengagement plan.

Sharon promised to schedule a meeting with Bush’s rival in May, when a visit to Washington had been planned, but that trip was canceled.

Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem said on Thursday that the prime minister does not plan a visit to Washington before the November presidential elections. This means that Kerry will not have a photo opportunity with the prime minister prior to the elections.

During his speech on Sunday, during July 4 celebrations at the residence of U.S. ambassador Dan Kurzer, Sharon commended Bush for his friendship to Israel, and his leadership in the war against terror.

Sharon’s office, like others in Israel, are in contact with Kerry’s Israel adviser, Footlik, who lived in Israel in the past and worked at the Peres Center for Peace.

Shalom, who returned to Israel on Thursday night from the U.S., did not meet with anyone affiliated with Kerry’s campaign.

A visit to Israel by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge scheduled for next week was canceled, but diplomatic sources said the reasons for the cancellation were unclear.

Steve Hedley and Elliot Abrams, White House advisers, will arrive in Israel for what has been described as “maintenance” talks with prime ministers Sharon and Ahmed Qureia.

Weisglass met on Thursday night with Abrams’s deputy Rob Denin, who was accompanied by David Sutherfield of the State Department. The latter met with the heads of the Shin Bet Security Services and Military Intelligence as well as senior Defense Ministry officials.

^ hmmmm this creates some doubts rather strenghthens the existing doubts
