Correction. Kerala was never matriarchal. It is only the Nair community in Kerala which is matrilineal. The difference being that 'matriarchal' would mean woman was the head of the family while by matrilineal, we mean that the family name comes from the mother's side. In other words, vansh ladkiyon se chalta hai aur ladkon se nahi...So suppose you are from the "ABC" family...your next generation of ABC family will happen only through the girl child's children. The son's children belong to the son's wife's family. The way it used to work was that the uncle would the one in charge of taking care of the family etc etc...Now it might get too confusing so shal stop. But currently across teh Nair community, it is very much like other communities (patriarcal) but the family name does come from the mother's side (even on property rights - the girl's children have a share in the property but the son's children have no claim to their paternal grandfather's property!!!!yeah so that way the girls are more important...

Yar u r right.. that women is not the head of the family.. but the family of the mother holds more importance. Or shall we say the uncle(mother's brother)- In malayalam marumakkathayam. He heads the family, not the father. So that is the reason I said that Nairs had Matriachial system.
I am too a nair..but now hardly anybody follows it I suppose.

There is a poster by the name of "antiobl" who seems to have a general dislike of what he calls "Kommies". He would have a field day with Kerala.
Kerala is an excellent example of communism, socialism, and above all Nehruvianism. Kerala is the perfect example of morons who can't learn from the experience of others (USSR, China, Vietnam, etc.). It demonstrates how a country, with the second fastes growing economy in the world, can have a state, with the largest percentage of educated masses, that cannot pull out of 1917. Kerala has shown the world how to keep everyone equal....by keeping then equally poor.

The police in Kerala are virtually handcuffed in terms of law enforcement. Maybe in this lovefest, it has escaped everyone where most of the money for the Bombay bombings came from? Where Chota Rajan operated from. How Dawoon Ibraham brought money from the Middle East through Kerala. How Indian intelligence believes that Kerala is the conduit for money for many of the terrorists organizations operating in India, including Kashmir and the Maoists.
For the sake of "communal harmony", Muslim organizations that are known to be involved in antistate activity are not investigated. It is next to impossible to beging surveillance of any group without the cover of the law enforcement being blown. Recently the Muslim killers or a group of Hindu fishermen were released, eventhough Muslim eye witnessses identified them. There is a reason why the Indian intelligence believes that Kerala can become the next hot bed of terrorism.
It's a beautiful and clean place alright, but is also a basket case stuck a century behind the rest of India.

Before vomitting such craps you have to have some basic knowledge about the facts.

It was in Kerala ,the Judaism,Christianity and Islam first arrived in the Indian subcontinent.Kerala had seen a large number of forceful and willingful conversions ,right through the ages of Tipu and Malabar mutinies.

7.Unlike north India the communal forces(BJP, RSS) does n’t have much hold in Kerala.Actually BJP is yet to win a single seat for Kerala Assembly or Indian parliment.

But sure they will if the communist and congress keep pampering the minorities too much.

R.S.S has got a strong grip in Kerala and infact it has its highest number of Sakhas in kerala in the country.

B.J.P is yet to wina seat but has considerable presence everywhere.

By the way, I’m as Mallu as Mohan Lal and Mamooty. However, I also realize that having an ostrich syndrome is what got Kerala to where it is now…a century behind the rest of India and a hot bed of terrorism.
So I’ll tell you what, while you rest on your laurels and blame the “north”, I’ll take an objective look and try to see how Kerala can be pulled out of the dark ages.

The striking facts. . .

100% literacy, certified in 1991.

A relegious diversity of 60% Hindus, 20% Christians, 20% Muslims. Even a community of 22 Jews exists. Still it`s a relegious peaceful state where all the groups live together in tolerance and harmony.

Infant mortality is 11 within 1000 born. In the US it is 8 within 1000 born, some places even more than Kerala.

Life Expectancy : 77 for female, 75 for male.

Birth rate is at replacement level, which means that the population growth is minimal, or non-existent. Kerala has solved one of the biggest 3rd World problems, high population growth.

In country where there is a unnatural high ratio of male vs female, Kerala has more female than male. Like in the western world women live longer than men.
