Keeping Things at their places

Reading a novel, where a Pakistani guy is married to a German lady. That lady gives too much attention to put things on their places. Writer says that its in German culture that they can’t see things scattered over there.

In one instance, when Pakistani guy was drinking water while reading a newspaper. He got a sip of water from glass and put on the table. When after a while, he moved his hand towards glass, it was not there. The German lady got it from the table, washed it and placed it at its place :hehe:

So what do you think is ita cultural thing that some nations like Germans like to see everything at its place and in some cultures like (India/Pakistan) scattering things, collecting unnecessary items around you is an acceptable norm? OR its not cultural thing, its a personal trait.

Re: Keeping Things at their places

Culture might have some effect, but its more of a personal trait.

Re: Keeping Things at their places

How does culture affect? If I look at Indo-Pak culture, girls are more responsible in arrangement of things at house. Normally, their games like (gudde guRiya) have something to do with the responsibilities of household stuff.. On other hand, boys are given free hand to scatter things. Its probably considered manly.

Re: Keeping Things at their places

i think it's more to do with the individual family...meaning...how parents enforce the disciplined life style...there are rebel kids in each family who do NOT subscribe to any domestic rules.

Re: Keeping Things at their places

But some communities living in same societies are more particular about cleanliness and order. My boss was referring to a community (I won't name that) that they got worst bath-rooms at their homes, how much they are wealthy. Probably, he was generalizing to an extent, but definitely things (extent of order / cleanliness) are different in different communities.
