Keeping options open even if ..

Would you remain open to hearing about opportunities even if you are very happy in your current role?
Yes or a no , please share reasons …

Re: Keeping options open even if ..

Yes because it may be something intriguing which was not even on my radar. One key move I made in my career was 6 years ago when a recruiter reached out to me on linkedin, I was then happy in my role but the opportunity presented was in an area I had tried getting into earlier but was not successful, and it got me into a very exciting industry.

I am very happy in a new role I just moved into a month ago, yet entertaining calls by a recruiter looking to fill a head of mobile commerce role at a company. Mobile is an area, i indirectly play in but see the entire web/social/mobile convergence continue to gain momentum, so I am talking to them. It requires a relo, and more than likely the numbers will not add up for me to pack up and move, but it is good to build strong networks with connected recruiters, understand how your skills match up against the marketplace needs, what sort of compensation packages are around for diff roles in diff industries. Its all good.

Wise thinking X2 , thanks for sharing ..strangely i come across alot of people who just dont like to hear of any opportunities .. I am keen to find out their mindset … or can we safely say they are just the middle order people in an organization , who are keen to get a job but progression is not really their agenda :hmmm:

Mobile commerce .. I was looking for people at the senior level for that role a few weeks ago for a large bank … these guys are making good fortune these days

Re: Keeping options open even if ..

I think I am one of those people becuase I see myself making more progress here than anywhere else.. I was offered couple of positions while working at my current job, I didnt even investigate into them for some personal reasons.. 1. I was trying to have a baby and knew that if I left the place, I may not even be eligible for maternity leave until I have been working somewhere for at least a year so I didnt want to take chances. 2. I am getting my yearly promotions like on the dot and i have invested so much in here that I feel like I have no energy to start everything from scratch yet again.. I would rather move up slowly and steadily instead of trying to run and create mroe work for myself!

Remember, I love my work and work place and I dont like constant changes, and Iw ork because it gives me satisfaction instead of chasing money.. it was never my top priority but alhamdulillah I have been getting raises left and right and bonuses.. I feel like right now I am at a perfect place.. at least for now!!

Re: Keeping options open even if ..

This is going to sound immature but i occasionally do it just for an ego boost.

The area/field I work in is highly prized by recruiters, and they try to setup calls/chats over a cup of coffee all the time. So I occasionally do talk to them to see how many perks ($$$ and otherwise) I can get if i were to switch employers. But then I just stick with my current position since I kinda like it and is probably can cash out on even better opportunities LT.

Re: Keeping options open even if ..

yes but my qualifying requirements would be higher. A job where I am not happy may made me leave just for one reason, but if I am happy then it would take a combo of many things to make my leave my current job. Salary, location, responsibility of the new job, size of company, growth opportunities and more.
