hi guys
just wanted some tips on keeping the house clean, especially kitchen, in a combine family system.
i find it very hard to keep it clean. my SIL says where there are people there is rubbish.
i dont believe this statement and i am obcessed with cleaning. i try so much but still keep it clean.

How can I give you mushwara I don't like to go to the Kichen.
I rarely clean.
Its hard in combined family to keep it clean. Just keep cleaning.

Sit everyone together and set some ground rules. Ask everyone to take their dishes back to the kitchen when they finish, and wash their own stuff straight after.
Alternatively, u can agree to pile the dirty stuff in one place until a certain time, and take it in regular turns to wash them.
Also things should be returned to their own places etc.
If anyone sees a full rubbish bin they should empty it asap.

And everyone should tidy their own bedrooms and take responsibility for another part of the house.

I can appreciate it would be hard to maintain order in the house living in a joint family system. Especially where everyone probably has a different view of acceptable standards.
I have found this with just havng my MIL with us for 6 months.....
It's fine saying have rota systems for washing up etc etc, but to be honest I doubt this would help in a desi house!!!!
The elders in the house should implement what's acceptable.......................it's better and probably more successful coming form them

Wellll, If you try your best to keep your kitchen clean then I don't think that kitchen can be messed up. It might be your weham. If your cabnets are clean and stove is well washed then you don't need to get worried. Just clean up the counters after preparing or doing something on it. Always keep the wash basin clean.

I used to be an obsessive cleaner too but after living in a joint family system, I realized my mental health is more important than keeping the house clean so I clean after myself and leave the rest to the others to do the same. If their mess gets in the way of my cleaning time, I clean it (like washing their dishes if they left it while I'm washing my own) but otherwise ignore it. Everyone has their own way of doing things and what's dirty to you might be clean for others and vice versa so better to do what you can and ignore the rest....this works for me anyway.

One thing i never understood was how people can just relax when they know there is a mess that should be cleaned. I always wash the pandey after cooking, i wash them even before I eat. That why I can relax and eat, and the only thing I will have to wash after we eat are the dining utencils that were used to eat. I dont know, it would help a lot if everyone would pitch in a little. I hate having a messy house!

i agree with you. i can not relax as well that is why i am asking everyone their opinion.
we have dishwasher and i used it. but the main problems are like: drinking water/coke/tea and leave cups/glasses on bench tops or on table.
my duty is to do dishes either with hand or dishwasher but other members do help me by clearing the table, but than noone cleans the table.
i had rules before my SIL came and i made everyone to follow as i had my parent support. but now my SIL, they never did these things at their house, is hard to convince about these things. she is so used to messy kitchen that she never wants to put things away than i have to do.
i feel she doesnt take her responsibilty. when i go own from work, i start picking up things and putting them away in cabints. when dishes are dry i like them in cabinets not on the sink.

Thing I hate most is a messy kitchen. Not only do I not keep dirty dishes laying around for too long but also I do not have a lot of kitchen appliances sitting on counter tops.

omg celaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 the ktichen is the worst cos its like u have to clean day in day out its soemthing that u clean once n it wil lnot reamin clean all day argh lolz however wat we do in our household is wash as soon as we eat, and wash along as we cook for example if my mum is make handi i am helpin her i would wash the plates that she has used etc so wen we r about to eat the kitchen is cleaned

Im like the opposite of every single desi girl/aunty/ammajee on gupshup, im SO LAZY with cleaning.. :hinna:Even when i was kids, i never understood why my cousin/neighbors were soooo obsessed with cleaning. =//

i cant stand a dirty house, literally it keeps me awake at night. ive actually just finished doing the dishes after a family gathering, bhabis like tis okay we'll do it in the morning...NO!! I WANT TO DO IT NOW!! lol having 5 adults in the house who just couldnt give a monkeys about cleaning after themseleves and 2 nephews under the age of 4 messing up the house the only way i can relax is (after cleaning the bath tub) having a long relaxing bath (then cleaning it once im out) haaha i swear i have ocd or something...

When i see my house untidy i sometimes get into tears, i try so hard to keep my house clean but with 4 boys in the house its just gets worse.

ugh, its hard for me! theres just the two of us plus our two cats but we just have so much stuff everywhere! we de-clutter and throw out loads of things and still theres stuff left over. its scary.

Even though i can give advice on maintaining a clean house, i cannot bring myself to follow my own advice. Its just the 2 of us in our house and its a STRUGGLE to keep it tidy (let alone clean!). 3 weeks ago i de-cluttered and threw loads of stuff out, and then again on the weekend, and thers still stuff to clear up. I think someone cursed me - may u never have a clean and tidy house for long!
