Re: KC Lahore imposes ban on jeans after alleged threats
Sure, but just tell me how the 10 foot soldiers would defeat the humungous pak army... make some calls if you have to but do let me know as I would be interested in finding out how a rag tag guerilla army in limited numbers and weapons can fight one on one with someone with superior state of the art weapons and numbers in the plains of lahore. I think someone residing in looon-dooon might be able to present a tactical theory.

If they cannot beat the pak army, can the Pak army beat them. This is a festering Sore north west of Islamabad since 1996 when Sufi Mohd first wanted Shariah in malakand. Its been 13 years since Sufi Mohd decided to ignore the federal government and write his own law.
So, its a stalemate then ? The pak army cant flush them out, and they cant take over the rest of the country. So they resort to bombings, terrorism, and what the discussion in this thread is about "social guerrilla warfare" that they have started to change the behavior of adjoining areas at first, and now even major cities.
to keep things in perspective Spock, are you arguing against the right for women to wear Jeans ?
DId I say they could beat the Pak army ? This is what I said
The figure of 10,000 is not one that pepe has pulled out of thin air. This figure is important to the Taliban for some reason, they think that once the momin mujahids crack jobs reach the number of 10,000 and march together they are invincible.
Not that they would have any chance against the Pak army or even any other armed group...
No one thinks that they will take over any major cities immediately. Changes in behavior brought about by threats or by the population volunteering them for perceived security are altering the socio-cultural fabric pushing it further to the right."
it is sorry to say that the all the mulla mind does not go beyond these things like jeans or dress code or co-education or the parda for women etc etc..
World has witnessed so much development and our molvi parties are still trying to resolve these ancient questions and it looks like that these will not be resolved ever.
KC is considered as the top most college for women and as far as i know; every girl wants to get admission in KC after the matric class which means that the best of the lot as per merit goes to KC and the result of the KC are also the best in FSC exams which means that whatever be the fashion, the students at KC are the best as far as education standard is concerned and this is their prime responsibility as students which they are adhering to. This also means that KC was doing well as a college and nobody should try to disturb the environment there.
i've spent 16 years in the pakistani school system (including college).
and ofcourse, beefing up security does not mean assigning a security guard to every student but atleast they can hire more security/cameras/metal detectors within the college perimeter? KC is a resourceful college and they can certainly afford to secure the college area atleast.
I understand their reaction but then where does it stop? do we stop offering fashion courses, do we tell women not to laugh too loud in public?, not to wear makeup, not to enroll in music classes? they thrive on fear and there should be no giving in to them...you dont negotiate with terrorists... (im so ashamed in quoting george bush here :/ )
Were you a teacher or an administrator for 16 years? I am just curious. The whole concept of hijaab or being conservative in fashion and clothing is not to attract too much attention from other men except husband or dad. If they want us to follow that, don't you think if is in our best interest? Why would anyone give their life in order to make us follow Islam- the way it is?

There was time during British Raj in India when Mullahs were saying learning English was unIslamic. As a result Hindus managed to get western Education & became influential in policy making while Muslims were left behind. Today, we're going backward while rest of the world is looking forward.

Good point. The only portion of the world where human rights are regressing are where mullahs hold sway. Everywhere else the cause of human rights is progressing, or at least steady.

Saudis, UAE, Sudanese and Malayasians moved forward without even knowing a word of English by the way.

Really? Saudi Arabia ranks 37th in the world in per capita GDP--despite having more oil wealth than any other country in the world. How low will S. Arabia tumble when oil is superseded? Sudan ranks an impressive 134th, right behind economic powerhouse Mongolia. Malaysia is 66th, barely ahead of Angola. These are examples of moving forward?

also its highly unfair to single out the ladies....just yesterday I saw on tv atleast four pakistani boys wearing tighter jeans and shirts than the girls
[/QUOTE]
Good point. They rarely, if ever, talk about men beautifying themselves or wearing "tight" clothes. Their interest is not in so-called "modest dress". Their objective is subjugating women. Don't take my word for it, though. Look at the record in every country the mullahs have taken over. The first thing they do is repress women and minorities.

So it is the responsibility of women to prevent men from looking at them? This makes no logical sense. There is nothing one can do to control the actions of another. Why don't mullahs tell men to stop looking at women, given their obsession with this minor issue?

Totally wrong comparison yaar, how can you compare learning english and wearing jeans??
In what way does not wearing jeans hamper you success in life in Pakistan?
I can imagine that not wearing jeans or western type cloths in Western countries can be a problem but in Pakistan they should do whatever they want.
If students or parents object to that then they should not let their children go to that school.
