And you all know the history…
India was divided / partiotioned…
Kashmir wanted to be a independent state but for whatever reasons ( which I dont want to discuss here) a part of it was attained by Pak and a part to India..
(Are we forgetting about aksai chin !!! )
(Its a perfect example of the story of the two cats and a monkey)
Anyway, Till 1990 kasmir was a peaceful place and suddenly insurgency started..Why ?? Opression by Indians? If so, why were the insurgents patient for over 40 years before taking up arms ??
Being an Indian , and for your information a Hindu(!!), I will support people of kashmir if they want to seperate from the Indian Union. But do they ?
The only way to know if to go for a plebiscite as per the UN mandate.
The demographics of kasmir have been totally changed since 1990..I am not crying foul but can someone please take notice of the people of other peaceful religions other than Islam who were thrown out of the valley and are now living like refugees ?Isnt it ethnic cleansing ?Not as hyped as Bosnia or kosovo but yes etnic cleansing happned in Kashmir and still continues to happen..why is the world not crying foul on it…
I will tell you the reason ..because we Indians treat it as an internal matter.
If u think its justified that Kasmir belongs only to muslims and hence ethnic cleansing is justified…I will leave it upto the reader to his or her own Conciousness..
Well..whatever happened happened…We are still taught in our schools that Indians and pakistanis are the same..we are from the same blood..Why cant we be friends and peaceful neighbours ?
Finally, time will tell that India’s only friend is Pakistan and Pakistan’s only friend is India..It will look like fools words today but who knows how it will look like in 50 years. The reason I say this is because we are the SAME…We have the same ancestors..
........ Till 1990 kasmir was a peaceful place ....
Sudha sahib. Your peaceful ideals are greatly appreciated. However please correct and update your historical views. Indian text books and media are really biased (just like their Pakistani counterparts) so you must do your own research before coming up with any plan.
FYI. Kashmir had uprisings since 1946 starting with Punch issue and then on and off all the way until few months ago. Some of the uprising were peaceful (like the most recent one), and others were not.
In some of the uprisings Pakistan remained "good neighbor" and in others she did "help". In cases when Pakistan did help, it wasn't any different from the Indian role in Hyderabad and Junagadh revolts against their state governments.
I hope you will do justice to yourself and your religion and not spread fallacies like so many Jihadis do.
There is a problem which sits above and top of Kashmir issue. Thats the daily loss of life, in Kashmir, or outside, using Kashmir's name. Pakistan and India need to try harder, to ensure no more lives are wasted, no people are displaced, for this issue. Muslims or Hindus, they are Kashmiris, and have every right to the land. I hope both states are able to achieve atleast that.
Social/political and technological events also favoured a rise in militancy in the 90s.
Social
The first was worldwide, the rise of militant Islamists following the Shia revolution in Iran in the 1970s, together with Sunni militancy across a broad swathe of the Muslim world.
India was not insulated from this; the previously relatively peaceful unrest with the state of events in Kashmir since 1947 was finally met with a generation buzzing on the rise of religion in the 1980s together with the "we can do it" attitude that came after Islamic militism defeated the USSR in Afghanistan.
To summarise, religious militism was a rapidly rising force across Muslim societies in the 80s and this trend reached Kashmir's population too by the 90s.
Technological
This one is simple: The Afghan war and the resulting overflow of guns and weapons around the region (all countries have borders that are porous to smuggling)
You now have a combo of Muslim society that became more religious, for the first time had role models of successful religious militism, AND for the first time had easy access to modern weapons.
The whole Kashmir is the part of Pakistan...the world should know it...Period!
Zabardast bhaijaan, there are other parts of Pakistan other than Kashmir. those parts where foreigners merrily rain missiles and we issue statements condemning these attacks. First let us take care of those parts, Kashmir can wait.
