Kashmir day

Today is kashmir day, 5th of February. The policies adopted by Musharraf and followed by the present regime have converted this day into a holiday and nothing else. The issue is there and the government is willing to talk to India on other topics and even willing to bestow upon the them the most favored nation title. We have been watching clips of women protesting with pictures of their loved ones (missing persons) in Kashmir, and now we can see the same in balochistan (that’s another thing that our media is quiet and turning a blind eye to that). While Indian prime minister can go and address rallies in Kashmir when ever he wants, for our politicians to do the same in balochistan is near to impossible. While our army has used gunship helicopters and drones for countering the insurgencies in Fata and balochistan the Indians adopted a much saner approach there.

Now we have a country with a civil war like situation in almost 50% of its area and economy on death bed, why will Kashmir want to be aligned with Pakistan? The way Pakistan is treating its baloch and pashtun populations should also be an eye opener for them. Gone are the days when Kashmir wanted to be a part of Pakistan now they’d rather be independent. We cannot control the areas which are under our control but still dreaming about Kashmir? What moral ground have we got left now?

Pak supports Kashmir despite external pressure: Mirwaiz

Re: Kashmir day

What about the hundreds and thousands sitting as IDP's in KP and Balochistan? If its our responsibility to repatriate the Kashmiris, should India come and repatriate our IDP's?

Re: Kashmir day

Kashmir is another case study of our foreign policy. Musharraf took a complete U-turn on Kashmir, just as in case of Taliban, without any follow-up or plan B. But all this aside, an economically failed state can be of help to none.

Re: Kashmir day

While we are worrying about Kashmiri immigrants, this is our own situation:

and this is Balochistan:

Re: Kashmir day

If the Kashmiris join Pakistan whats the guarantee that we wont be asking Americans for using drones on them after 20-30 years?

Rahman Malik has taken the first step by alleging that people from Chitral and Gilgit are terrorists.

Double standards!

While Pakistan is concerned about Kashmir, no one is worried about the condition of KP and Balochistan!

While we worry about Kashmiri migrants no one is worried about the hundreds and thousands of IDP's of Balochistan and Kurram/Orakzai

While we worry about Indian atrocities in Kashmir no one is worried about the use of Gunship helicopters and drones in KP and Balochistan

While we worry about the missing people of Kashmir no one is worried about the missing people of KP/Balochistan and the kill and dump policy

Re: Kashmir day

it is indeed touching to see Pakistanis shed tears for their Indian bretheren whether it be bank accounts for muslims in UP or investigation of missing persons in Kashmir.

You would have some credibility if this compassion had existed before and you hadn't created grown and sent terrorists into India to kill in the first place!

Re: Kashmir day

No one sheds any tears for Kashmiris (its only a holiday thats it), heck we dont even shed any tears for pashtuns and baloch's!

They are better off in India at least they are away from drones...

Re: Kashmir day

This news is almost one year old. Kashmiris are now joining Indian army in large numbers from whom we want to save them from!

Will Indian army’s charm offensive work in Kashmir?

By Sheikh Mushtaq
**FEBRUARY 25, 2011

When thousands gathered in an Indian army camp in Kashmir recently, people started asking questions: Is this another protest against New Delhi’s rule?

The answer came as a surprise to many and as a shock to some.

Nearly 10,000 youth had gathered to try their luck in a recruitment drive by the Indian army in the disputed region and not to protest against alleged excesses by security forces.**
**
A BBC report said that by taking part in the Indian army’s recruitment rally, Kashmiri youth have disregarded the region’s “struggle for independence which has been ongoing for the last 20 years.”**

Tens of thousands have died since 1989 in Kashmir, which is claimed both by India and Pakistan.

“The week-long rally is being held barely a few months after last year’s widespread public unrest during which more than 100 people were killed,” the BBC report said.

Last year, the death of a teenage boy by a police teargas shell triggered massive protests, the biggest since a separatist revolt against Indian rule broke out.

More than 110 people were killed, most of them by bullets fired by government forces during months of unrest.

**But a few months after the massive demonstrations against Indian rule thousands of unemployed Kashmiris, braving militant threats, are queuing in hopes of impressing officers running an army recruitment drive, and bagging a job with the military.

The rebel groups, which in the past have warned Kashmiris against joining Indian forces, describe local recruitment as an Indian ploy to make the people of the region fight each other.
**
But the Indian army says its recruitment drive is to improve the lives of unemployed Kashmiris and create a niche for itself in a region where Indian forces are accused of grave human rights violations.

**“The huge turnout implies that the army has created a niche for itself in the hearts and minds of Kashmiris,” the Indian army’s Colonel Sanjiv Sirohi said.

Overwhelmed by the response of Kashmiris to its week-long recruitment rally, the Indian army has assured many more similar recruitment rallies across the region.
**
By wooing youth from the troubled region to join the army, is New Delhi trying to end separatism and militancy in Kashmir? Will the Indian army’s charm offensive work?

Violence wanes in Kashmir, but India maintains tight military grip

Yet political experts here say Kashmiris might still respond positively if New Delhi would only trust them — especially at a time when the idea of joining Pakistan holds less attraction than it used to, such are the problems just across the border.
**
“If Kashmiris were left on their own, they would prefer to be part of India, but in a situation of dignity and with a certain degree of autonomy and freedom,” said Noor Ahmad Baba, the head of the political science department at Kashmir University. “If you respect people, then possibly they will be with you emotionally, but if you suppress people, they will never be with you.”**

Re: Kashmir day

As far as being the thekaydaars of all the Muslims of the world, which Muslim army has killed more Muslims than Pakistan army (Bangladesh, crushed four uprisings in balochistan, and now the war on terror)?

Re: Kashmir day

Syrians?

Re: Kashmir day

and libyan army as well :(

Re: Kashmir day

Saddam was the cruelest of them all, the figures that I could find on the web for the people who got missing in his tenure are 200000. Qaddafi has killed between 12-15000, bashar al Assad between 7-10000. Now consider Pakistan army Bangladesh was between 30000-300000, balochistan operation in 1972 around 7000, current operation around 2000, war on terror about 35-40000 ( out of which how many were soldiers, terrorists and civilians, and what's the number of people killed in fata/kp and the rest of the country we don't know!). I have not added the number of people killed in the first two Baloch uprisings, and the number of people killed in Karachi operation.

Re: Kashmir day

Pakistan is behind India in nearly every way. The only issues I think might be better in Pakistan are the extreme poverty and female infanticide. I would hate to see Kashmir join this current Pakistan. It would be a step down for them. Also Kashmir has beautiful forests and a lot of wildlife - Pakistan would just hunt the wildlife and cut the forests down.

A question to all Pakistanis - how many would support freedom for Balochistan if it meant peace there? I would hate to lose the beautiful Balochistan personally but peace should always come first.

Re: Kashmir day

^ aren't you against the very concept of pakistan as a state??? with pakhtoonistan n stuff??

Re: Kashmir day

As a Kashmiri I do feel quite disillusioned with Pakistans internal as well as foreign policy. I want to remain a part of Pakistan like many other Kashmiris but I think I would want autonomy. I can't see myself being part of India. These problems are brought about by politicians from the Punjab and Sindh who fight to control the state. Other poorer or smaller states are sidelined and are considered inferior. Pakistan is a country which has many problems but it will never fall.

Re: Kashmir day

I do not support a free balochistan but on the other hand I hate the way balochistan has been treated during the past 60 years! I think the operation needs to be stopped and a genuine dialog be started with the balochis, and maybe some new agreements be signed between the various federating units so that the provinces could have more control over their resources and this feeling that Punjab is manipulating their resources could finish.

Re: Kashmir day

Lets cut the chase and ask Kashmiris what they want.. I am sure we will have no problem finding out what they want if a referendum is held...

Please keep B-Stan and every stan out of this thread since this is about Kashmir which is a disputed territory per UN. And if not then please include Indian states too where Shri maoist have field day every day.

Re: Kashmir day

Besides I dont think an independent Balochistan would be feasible with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran each trying to control it. The independence of the province will mean a lot of bloodshed, and this the pragmatic politicians of Balochistan also know. The only thing is that Pakistani army and politicians are not willing to let go of their ego to have the problem resolved.
