Carla Makes History But Still Undecided

LONDON, Nov 10: Carla Khan, the grand-daughter of legendary former world number one Azam Khan, has become the first woman representing Pakistan ever to win a title on the Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) world circuit.

The 21-year-old London-based player has captured the El Salvador Open title, an inaugural WISPA event in San Salvador, by beating Frania Samantha Teran of Mexico 9-1, 2-9, 9-3, 9-1 in the final.

However the history-making success comes at a time when the British-born Khan has been considering switching her allegiance back to England, which she represented at junior level.

Her hopes of representing Pakistan were dashed only the day before the Commonwealth Games began four months ago in Manchester and later she was told that, even though she is the Pakistani national champion, she was ineligible to compete in the Asian Games because she did not reside in Pakistan.

“All the uncertainty about whether or not I would be able to play for Pakistan has not helped me to train my best, but I now just want to get on with winning as much as I can,” she said.

Carla failed to qualify for the World Open in Doha last week, **but broke into the world’s top 30 earlier this year and will continue her push towards the top 20 at the US Open which starts in New York Thursday. ** :k:

Meanwhile the World Open champion Peter Nicol, who was reported as in danger of being unable to defend his title in Antwerp next month (Dec 6-14) after being carried off in a league match in London five days ago, has surprisingly flown to Toronto for the YMG Capital Classic.

Actually Pakistan should never let her go, and the UK should refuse to accapet her back-we can pressurize the Gn Squahs ppl into this. She is too valuable a face for Female Squash in Pakistan,

maybe she could become a model and help start a "lahore fashion week"........
