If I was to give you my understanding of Karbala, I would let Delight of the hook on his teaching lesson.
However, I am a reasonable man and am willing to compromise.
I'll give you my understanding of Karbala and you can educate me on the 73 sect issue.
As far as I am concerned, no event in the history of mankind stirred human sentiments more deeply than the tragedy of Karbala. The martyrdom of Imaam Hussain brings tears throughout the world of Islam. The sacrifice of the pious Imaam for the cause of Truth was so colossal and the tragedy which resulted from it was so poignant that it continues to serve as a beacon light to all Muslims.
The martyrdom of Hazrat Ali left the field open for Ameer Muawiya. Imaam Hassan, who succeeded his father compromised with and abdicated in favour of Muawiya in the larger interests of Islam, but was later poisoned to death.
Muawiya dealt the greatest blow to the democratic spirit of Islam during the closing years of his reign when, on the advice of Mughira, the Governor of Basra, he nominated his son Yazeed as his successor. The democratic spirit of Islamic Caliphate degenerated into monarchy. It was also breach of contract with Imaam Hussain. Four notable Islamic personalities of Islam who took exception to his un-Islamic practice were Imaam Hussain, Abdullah ibn Umar, Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Bakr and Abdullah ibn Zubair.
Yazeed, who I believe is the most cursed personality in the annals of Islam, was a tyrrant who revelled in vicious pleasures of life. He hated and took delight in persecuting Muslims. He tried to gain allegiance through intrigue and force.
Imaam Hussain remained adament and refused to acknowledge such a vicious and dissolute person as Caliph.
Imaam Husasain, in order to help the citizens of Kufa at their request and oaths of support in order to free them from Yazeed, along with his family members, relations and companions left for Kufa. When he approached the borders of Iraq, he was surprised at the absence of the promised Kufi soldiers. Betrayal!
Imaam Hussain was confronted with a strong detachment of Umayyad army under the command of Hur, who, under the orders of Ubaidullah ibn Zayad, forced Imaam Hussain and his party to march towards Karbala. When Imaam Hussain camped, the Umayyad governor cut off all acces to the river Euphrates, hoping to reduce the Imaam to thirst.
The band of approximately 72 members which included ladies, men and children were surrounded by the army of Umayyad soldiers and had their water supply cut of for 4 days.
On the 10th of Muharram, Hur deserted the enemy camp but was killed.
It was archers that picked off the companions one by one. Even Imaam Hussians son Asghar was not spared nad instead of giving water the enemys gave him a dart and killed him.
During Imamm Hussains last moments he prayed foir his attackers ebven though they kiolled most of his family. The Imaam made a desperate charge but was exhausted with loss of blood and water. Imaam Hussain got down from his horse and offered his last prayers to Allah SWT. As he prostrated, Saran ibn Uns cut of the Imaams head and ruthlessly trampled over his body.
The only male survivor was sickly Zainul Abedin, son of Imaam Hussain who escaped general massacre at the intervention of Bibi Zainab.
The above is my understanding of Karbala.
I do believe Yazeed to be 'paleet', and believe he has booked his ticket to Jahanaam.
The martyrdom of Imaam Hussain REVIVED THE VIRTUES of Islam, not saved Islam. As Islam is 'submission to the will of Allah SWT', which is determined via the Qur'aan. And the Qur'aan is personally protected by Allah SWT.
I hope you now get my point.
In the meantime, give me lesson on sects!

Salaam Brother
No need to apologise. We are all guilty sometimes of emotions, and I've been there plenty of times.
Theres no need to answer the query of the sect issue as I am pretty well versed in that topic as well.
In the meantime I hope we have dealt with our differences and am glad that people can see that we can unite despite agreeing to disagree in the first instance.
Salaam
