karaylay

I enjoy eating karelas .Not only they are tasty but suit my personality too. I am not a good cook so I would request the khatoons in this thread to give some good recipes for cooking karelas.

I would also like to know that while cooking karelas how do u all strike the rite ballance so that the karelas dont become very "Karwa" and nor do they loose there taste?

What is karela in english?

Anyways, try karela with cheese and banana. :D

Bitter melon.

I remember a few years ago a friend made the most delicious karylay that were stuffed with a keema mixture and then shallow fried whole.

Also another tip I remember is when one of my mums friends used to grate karaylay and boil them, straining of the bitter water. Then she used to cook the strained karaylay mixture and it didn't taste bitter at all.

Karalay with lots onion.....boil them?...will it remove the bitter taste of it through boiling?<<

Yep, boil the karayla, cut them, fry them with your onion on slow heat. Masalah bhi karayle ke saath hi bhoono.

k i asked mom,
to get the bitterness out, i cut them in slices and sprinkled salt on them
and after 2-3 hours i took them and squeezed all their water out......then fried them and took excess oil out with the help of paper towels.......
qeema i had already prepared with the achaar masala (fenugreek seeds (or methi dana )and kalonji( onion seeds),zeera(cumin),and lots of tomatoes and all the rest of regular spices.......
bohat maza aayya :)

haan and I was supposed to fry onions separately and add them later
(onions, qeema, and fried karaylay), and let them cook on dheemi aanch.

^Dhoop.......aap ka bauhat shukriya............:)...i will surely try it.

^ dhoop thats the same way I cook karaylay ...... :) ...... but sometimes omitting the keema ......

Karaylay’s are one of my favorite. I also like them fried, and stuffed with chopped up tomatoes and onions :yummy:

You mean you stuff the the karaily with besan…hey how do you make it?..

Sorry but I am not for hire…but I would still make some karelay juice for you…don’t worry…

Yeah…me also want to know how to strike a balance…:0

Banana!..what a strange combination…how should I make karelay with bananas…do you have the recipe?

By boiling or frying the karaley will the nutrients be gone too…but Shahreen that’s a good idea…:k:…I will write it down.

Ahhh…your version is a bit different from that of Shahreen…she says we should grate it then boil it…you say boil it then cut it…it won’t make big difference would it if you do either of way?..but thanks very much…:k:

Hay…looks like a good recipe…:yummy:…thanks…:k:

I used to make it this way too.

Dont’ the things you stuff into the karalay come out when you fry them…?

Actually, some of it does, but most stays inside, but I scoop up the fallen tomato and onion slices afterwards and stuff it again.

kaaraylay- neem charrhay? :)

little human: Yes I agree no one ,yet, has told us about how to get that exact taste ...unless they dont I wont let this thread die...I am also doing a bit of research on different recipies ...probably I will post some.

Freat Wiz: I think some people wrap the karelas with a string so that the stuffing doesnt come out when they are being fried....
