Karachi's business is dying at the hands of extortionists (and police and government)

It’s easy to make a sweeping two word statement on a complex situation. You have no idea what is happening and who is responsible.
So you need to keep your prejudices aside and talk only on the facts and figures.

About MQM, here is what I think. I have not had any bad experience with MQM or its workers, but I do believe stories about some MQM workers demanding ‘chanda’. This chanda could be a form of bhatta if it is not voluntary. But MQM has been receiving such money since the beginnings in 80s, and yet traders started their protests only a few years ago.
It means that something new happened which made this bhatta stuff go through the roof. What was it?

If you are really interested in the plight of Karachi, instead of just making sweeping statements against people you dislike; then I would ask you to help do some research. Try finding out which year first protests against extortion and kidnappings were held in the city.
