authorities are now playing down the incident...they are saying that there was a firing exchange between ASF and drug smugglers...
...there has been a contradiction between two sets of authorities.

Recently General Raheel Shareef had said that the whole nation has rejected the misplaced ideology of the terrorists. We all have seen in the last few days the mayhem created by the terrorists from the border town of Taftan near Iran to Karachi and the overwhelming response of the nation to fight back against these killers. The terrorists are determined to destabilize Pakistan but we should be glad that the security forces are even more determined to defeat the enemy. We are saddened by the loss of so many lives in these senseless attacks but at the same time we are happy to see the quick response of the security forces in neutralizing the terrorists. The ongoing security forces sweeps and actions in the northwestern terrorists’ strongholds and in and around Karachi will soon show positive results. We stand united with the people and the military of Pakistan in these testing times. Together our resolve is to bring about sustained peace in the region.

He might be in a safe house across the street from airport. BTW, time for Sindh assembly to pass law making it mandatory to registre all madrasas and mosques in the province & audit their funds.
More than that the first action that needs to be taken is eliminate all illegal housing, illegal occupation of residences in Karachi suburbs as the north-eastern/outskirts of Karachi is full of illegally-occupied residents and many of whom shelter people running away from Afghanistan/FATA.
