I need you to recommend some excellent tailors in Karachi who are also capable of doing excellent embroidery work. I only know of one, ‘Best Tailors’, which is operated by women, but they don’t do embroidery.
Please suggest and go and ask your mom’s if you have to.
Bareeza? Where is that? Where are the shopping malls? Where else can I find high quality clothes for women? I need names. Also, wedding shopping (no, not me for) … where is all the nice stuff found?
In which area of Karachi will you be staying? If you need to do heavy duty shopping like I did, you’d rather not go on a rickshaw…It’d take forever to go from one place to another…especially with all the Khi traffic.
While shopping, I came across a couple of places that had embroidery shops…one was a shopping mall called “Ashiana” and this was in Clifton I believe. Ashiana had a good selection of printed suits..for causal wear.
I know you are looking specifically for embroidery, but some of the best places to just buy cloth were Halal Silk (Clifton), Portia (the Tariq Road branch - its HUGE and has so much variety including suits with embroidery that just need to be stitched). Halal silk had great selection of very in colors and texture of cloth, including some embroidery…very hip I must add :k: They are a bit pricey though but worth it.
i think gulf shopping center is the best place for you to go. u can buy just about anything there and the prices are really good. its located in clifton and if u tell most taxi or rickshaw drivers they should know where it is. i dont know specific names of shops there but u have to go towards the back of the place and u will see the embrodiery shops. also if u want ready made clothes u can go to park towers and the best place there is maria b. then there is also zamzama in defence but the shops are a little expensive. oh and one last place that i use to go to was bahadurabad (i probably spelled that wrong) there are lots of shops there too.
i agree with Sehar... go to Portia at tariq road... amazing fabric... if u wanna go ready made... i havent come across any store that i can swear by..sometimes they have good stuff sometimes they dont.... most of the time teh embroidery work is too heavey for our foreign tastes.. i think ure best bet would be to visit Portia and buy fabric and have it tailor made.... Bareeze (pronounced Baar ee zay) is a great store too.. but not wedding related.. they mostly deal with cottons and chicken...
or maybe take a trip to zamzama .... i have never been tehre personally.. but that is where all teh designer stores are loacated... i bet they will be a rip off.. but what u can do is buy fabric from Portia.. go to one of the designer stores... check out designs u like.. and have it made for u for much less...
I was only kidding about the rikshaw. I did that last time, but that was only for me and my mom … this time my whole family is going so no rikshaws unfortunately.
I am writing all these names and locations down. Thanks a bunch!!
Keep them coming!
I also need to buy nice shawls. Last time I was there, I just didn’t see anything. Maybe cause it was Ramadan when I went, I don’t know.
I’ve been to Portia on Tariq Road and I don’t remember being too impressed. Mind you, I threw up outside this store so I wasn’t exactly feeling top notch. I’ll check it out again.
What are all these nice malls they always show in dramas?
Mehnaz, a cousin of mine got some karhai done on my sisters clothes a while back.
It was honestly the most beautiful I've ever seen! It wasn't overdone and was very very neat.
I just asked her where she got that done and she said it was in a shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
I have no clue how to explain u this but she lives in a flat (K.D.A flats)and u have all kinds of shops right under there. Now I would really recommend that shop! If ur interested I could maybe ask her for a number?!
^^
I used to live in that area! :) It's in Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 6(i guess). Yes, there are a lot of excellent tailors at the KDA market who can also do embroidery. Their work is very neat and as far as I remember their prices too are very reasonable. You can also buy fabric at the KDA market coz there are a lot of those kinda shops so just look around!

Yes, they are located in block #3 near Mahroz beauty parlour. I had all my dresses made from the tailors there. There are about 20 to 25 tailor shops in a row. They do everything from embroidery to stitching. The one i had most of my dresses made were from the shop called "Prince Tailor"... i found them to be much more hard working and honest and they did everything in very short period of time.
^Yeah JP, we always get ours stitched from the tailors there. Our 'family' tailor is called Tariq and all of us get our stuff made there. They really are very hardworking and do it in a short time. Very reasonably priced aswell!
And I just looked it up, it's Block #3 alright!
Mehnaz, u should get there with this information.
A bunch of tailors located in Block #3, KDA flats, Gulshan-e-Iqbal (close to Mahrose beautyparlours)
