I just read something on Twitter and I wanted your opinion. Someone had written “Karachi should be handed to the Army, a curfew should be imposed and house to house searches should be done. That’s how we can get rid of the dogs.”

army or no army, Karachi needs an extensive exercise to get rid of the killers, irrespective of which political, ethnic or religious group the belong to.
police is not capable to perform any such action they can only help (sometimes even become a hurdle) to any other force which may undertake the task. other force cannot be rangers, as are either not willing to do the job, or their civilian leadership is not letting them utilize their full capabilities and their hands are tied. this only lefts army behind as single credible and capable force to do this Job.
to make this whole thing more credible and avoid any objections that some ethnic/ political parties may make, a proper video recording along with twice or thrice a day reporting of the events may be set up, all such parties may be asked to nominate their representatives who may accompany the operating forces wherever they wish to (on their own risk) to observe and witness the neutrality.
making similar arrangements and then a thorough clean-up of arms/ ammunition, irrespective of where current killings are happening, and then proper arrangements to stop any further arms coming to the city, specially check ALL shipments coming out of karachi port. only 15-20 days and karachi will be good to go INSHA ALLAH
and the most import... whoever opposes this, then remember that they have the biggest share in all this mess, and they are one of the culprits, along with others who may agree to the above, not because they are the victims and angles, but knowing that their loses will be minimal

It has been tried once , it did not workout . Some other solution has to be there. Keep pondering.

The last Op Cleanup in karachi worked pretty well, too bad it didn't go far enough...and too bad Mush rolled back all the good work done in Karachi by the previous administrations...

I like as to how you live in fantasy land and ignore ground realities.
I will agree to you that what Uncle Sam is doing any where or is being done at Uncle Sams behest anywhere in the world , has never worked and will never work.
Along the same lines there is no military solution for Karachi. Only if the whole of Pakistan has change of heart overnight , all the problems of Pakistan ,including that of Karachi will be resolved till then keep praying and dreaming.

if you think about it........38 people killed within 1 day........no different that suicide bombing....yet people say its 'relgion' that is to blame for terrorism/extremism/militancy......
all these political parties are no less barbaric than the taliban......because they are doing same thing the taliban did.....may be even more.....

That is not the solution. I think I like the military take over but as someone said, operation should not be one sided.
They should start with blocking all the entrance to the City and then move in the areas of trouble.

On the contrary I am extremely saddened by your gung-ho absolutism, there is a huge difference between karachi and tribal areas, one which is not so apparent to the one-dimensional, un-nuanced being such as yourself…in life there no absolutes, the sooner you learn that the better off you’d be, just ask Bush Jr., Having said that, not doing operation cleanup in Karachi would be on the behest of americans as it would suit them just right because their allies, i.e. MQM would be protected…doing the operation will not be at the behest of a foreign entity and would be conducted to correct a menace predating 9/11 and one which plagues Pakistan’s commercial hub…
On the other hand, operation in tribal area, was done strictly to please americans in order to affect the dynamics not in Pakistan but beyond the borders of Pakistan, where Pakistan has zero interests, except for ensuring it’s natural allies, i.e. the pukhtoons/taliban and not the ex-commie/Indian backed/farsi-van NA, survive and thrive…something doing operations in the tribal areas would undermine…
Now hit the books, you have a lot to learn about the world, it’s history and realpolitik…
