It’s a project to outsource the programming jobs to Karachi. Will be hiring atleast two DOT NET programmers for basically a Graveyard Shift in Karachi, that is, in accordance to the timing of the East Coast, USA.

Basically, what we are interested in finding out is:

  • **The Salary Range for such a job (ofcourse, Graveyard shift salery will be relatively higher than usual).

  • **The cost of getting Static IP for the office.

**

  • The rental information for let’s say an office of just one room (normal size). And since, we are looking to get Static IP, is Static IP available anywhere or only in specific areas, and if the later, then the rental info accordingly.

dont know about rent market, cause not from khi.

about salary, its employer market in Pakistan so you decide what you can afford to offer decent pay package.
it can start as little from 10000 PKR p/m to 30000 p/m

rent really depends. kon se area mein? aur siraf aik kamra? maybe then you can hire two different people who can work from their houses? why dont u do that? aik kamra 1500 per month pe bhee mil sakta hae aur 3-4,000 mein bhee. saath attached bath ya kitchen ho toh aur mehnga ho ga.

what exactly do u mean when u say u wana get static ip? (sorry i dont have much knowledge abt this but do explain?) i mean you can get go4b worldcall broadband (24 hr net) www.go4b.net but thats only avlbl in the expensive areas
or you can get one of the dialup modem internet conexions which r avlbl all over karachi. they r 10 rs per hour for the good ones like fascom.

salaries…depends on the education and experience of the progger…but you can get a programmer for under 10,000 rupees per month easily for the graveyard shift. maybe a recent graduate from a local college who has 1 yr experience.

static ips cost about 900 per ip per year. that is the rate of the best dsl provider in isl, but i'm sure it would be same in karachi.

so can u register a dotcom domain with the static ip address that you get or does it have to be dotcomdotpk?

the ip address problem can easily be avoided by having someone maintain the website in the U.S. I am hosting a few websites (for paki companies) on my home server with my static ip that I have with my DSL provider. the companies whose webistes I am hosting actually preffered not to have dotcomdotpk type domain.

Irem: Static Ip means High Speed Broad Band (cable or DSL) internet with one static ip :D

as for your suggestion about working from home. NO! we have already discussed this in the meeting and being the incharge of this project, I was the first one to suggest it and it was outright denied as the company wants Proper office to be placed and if it is in place, then, occassionally, I will be flying to karachi for a week/two weeks business trip to manage the whole office.

Just to clear few things:

Primarily, we are the pharmaceutical software vendors and the second largest company in the tristate area (NY,NJ,CT) and we are still growing. We even have our clients in Mid west, chicago and south. We also provide services to various Medical Labs but our bread and butter is with pharmacies.

Now, that we have launched our windows based software and along with that our Foxpro based clientale is in the process of conversion (from foxpro to SQL database), we are expereincing a growing pain. However, our goals are solid and we are continuously working for a better solution.

This project is the part of this struggle and is a must. I know we will do it. Just need to do some research before starting everything. We do have our own servers, static IP's and websites in USA. We just need to co-ordinate all these things abroad as well :-)

Now that, it is clear I hope to read little more helpful replies from you lot. You guys are great :-p

Last night, I tried again. It took literally 15 minutes to show up the main page after several tries of "Page Can not displayed"

Then when that page came up, it refused to surf within the site anymore :(

salary range...hmmm....asal mein range hoti hae...like..it really depends k banday ne parhai kahan se kee hae, prev experience kia hae...aur woh demand kitna kar raha hae...lekin below 10,000 mein night shift ke programmers mil janay chahiayay...
even though programmers suna hae 6000 pe bhee kaam kartay haen personally i think paying someone less than 8,000 for it would be unfair
so i think 8-10,000 kee range mein is a good salary for someone who is like a fresh grad with thora boht experience

rental info...ilaqa batatein....? kon se area mein rent karna hae?
aur aik room hona chahiyay? saath attached bath/kitchen?

i guess pehle u'll have to decide the ISP (the link was for DSL but there are many dialups..the best ones are cyber.net and fascom ) lekin i dont know k woh static wali cheez hoti hae un se ya nai

so pehle u'l have to decide the isp and check k woh us area mein conexion de rhay haen ya nai and then decide on the area...
(dialups can be hooked on to from anywhere with a phone line)

and ofcourse rent k ilava, bijli aur telephone line and other utlities ka kharcha ho ga..
u might wana keep a security guard there..
unless its a building in which case it will have its own chokidaar

hmmm.. besides all other thing, that may be taken in consideration, dial-up is not an option. We need a 24/7/365 permanent live internet connection and that too high speed meaning Broad band, meaning Cable/DSL internet.... 56K technology is ancient:p and would not work with our growing pace. At times we might be remotely connecting to our office in Karachi. IT gotta be Cable/DSL/T1 type reliable connection.

Awright!

In the course of research, I did have a chance to talk to some of the current residents of Karachi and who happened to be somewhat ‘in the field’…

PTCL is one option to go

but they talked about Fascom Dish system for static IP… and the person who mentioned it was not ready to give me any solution for Business other than Fascom :smack:

anyone has detailed info on that??
