karo operatrion karachi may…i say do more ruthless operation in Karachi against all parties but at the same time keep an eye on the past…all of these operations were eventually politically compromised and MQM and other paarties became even more dangerous…what will happen this time? lets see
Re: Karachi Operation...
I agree that if operation is done it should be done against all factions using their militant wings. Whether its PPP , ANP , MQM or ASWJ.
there were some terrible terrible blunders in the operation of 92 and then especially during Naeerullah Babar regime in 95. The worst was the creation of Haqiqi with the pick of the top criminals in original MQM. That did the huge damage. And then a long series of extra-judicial killing.
You still need MQM, just not their militant wing and Altaf. And so far from what it looks, thats exactly where we are going right now.
Re: Karachi Operation...
There is a reason Police is not playing active role in this operation, they simply do not trust that this operation is going to be concluded logically, that is getting rid of the menace for once.
So far the operation is not against MQM alone, others such as Liyari Gang and TTP have taken major blows, since MQM is majority shareholder, hence they are taking more damage.
And as a thought, it is golden time for MQM to eliminate all terrorist wings it have and come to senses...

i think the article is also talking about political compromise. that is the main point. in the past, some serious operations were done against MQM but then the political govts needed MQM for their needs and they sabotaged the operation. and as a result MQM became more difficult
and agreed sid and hani that we still need MQM, just not their militant wing and Altaf.
Re: Karachi Operation...
Can't see political compromises taking place this time, not under this army leadership.
Re: Karachi Operation…
People of Karachi know that there are two systems in city.
1- Police
2- MQM
MQM > Police

Karachi MQM leader Altaf Hussain feels heat from military - BBC News
Pakistan’s current army chief, Gen Raheel Sharif, says he is committed to tough action against all violent groups, be they militants in the tribal north-west or militants in the political parties of Karachi.
His approach to sorting out the lawless in Karachi is said to be informed by the director general of the intelligence service ISI, Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar.
Playing it coolBefore being promoted to the powerful post in September 2014, Gen Akhtar served as the head of Pakistan Rangers in Karachi.
In that capacity, he approved “targeted raids” against militants. During this time, he is said to have formed strong views about the complicated dynamics of political violence in Pakistan’s biggest city.
His blunt assessment, it is believed, was that to sort out Karachi, you first have to sort out the MQM.
Re: Karachi Operation…
Mqm would be a very fickle party if it can’t survive without altaf Hussein. Aside from central and northern Punjab, a good performance might get them votes in southern Punjab.
