Karachi Magno Transit system

What ever happened to the project?
Are there any pictures available of the plans, trains, routes e.t.c
just curious
G.D

I have only heard of one project in Shangai, which use magnetic levitation- the technology is too costly. The upcoming project in Karachi will be the circular railway.

** Electro-magnetic levitation train to start in 2 years in Karachi **

KARACHI—The City District Government Karachi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Swiss-German firm Inter Glob, for electro-magnetic levitation train in the city. The 1.2 billion dollar project would be financed by an international consortium and would be pursued on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

This was stated by the Nazim of Karachi, Naymatullah Khan while addressing a press conference at the Governor House on Monday. He said that the purpose of the project is to solve the transport problems in the city. He also assured that the fare of the train would be affordable. The Governor Sindh, Muhammad Mian Soomro and Dr. Ing. Warner of the Inter Glob were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Ing. Wagner of Inter Glob informed that the system of electro magnetic was first developed in Germany five years ago.

Shanghai, China is the second place where the system is in vogue, while Karachi would be the third place, he added.

The project would be completed in two years, he added. He said that the system would be spread over 97 kilometres with six corridors. He further added that the system could also be extended up to Islamabad. The speed of up to 600 kms/hr, the train could reach in Islamabad in two and a half-hour.–Agencies

What kind of idiot orders the building of a state of the art Magna train ina third world country, when most developed nations dont even have one? The much simpler KCR system is still in limbo, but there willing to bend over backwards to finance a MAGNA train!! How stupid can Karachi authorites be?!?! Get real.

please tell me that article was made up and it was a joke!!

you cant have a train like that in a third world country while some of the western countries dont even have that.

Good start…That investment is a trust from the Swiss in our abilities…We should utilize it…Even the money is not ours…And the Swiss have an excellent record in fair dealing…Their businesses have an excellent track record…They are businessmen and good ones at that…We can profit from their profit…BismillahiRahmaniRaheem…Let’s go for it…

Here is the link to the story above http://www.sindh.gov.pk/press_release/electrotrain.htm

Although, the speed of the train is questionable, it is a good step in the right direction.

Some further news about the Magnetic Train in China

The train, which has come off the production line at the Changchun Passenger Car Plant (CPCP) of the northeast Jilin province, putting China right up there along with Germany and Japan in the use of a technology that uses powerful magnets to hold a train about eight to 10 millimetres above the track and to propel it with minimal vibration and noise.

According to Mr Ma Shukun, CPCP President, the train can run at an hourly speed of 60 km, with the maximum 100 km per hour during trial runs. He added that CPCP engineers are preparing for tests of 300 to 400 km per hour. It may be recalled that a German consortium, Transrapid International (TRI), had bagged early last year a contract to construct a high-speed magnetic suspension train for a 30-km line in Shanghai connecting the Pudong airport to the downtown area

Ditto.. :k:
I remember, 12 years ago. A project was started to build, and run a Maglev train in Berlin, Germany. I was there at the time. And I also saw that train floating on the test traject. They tested it for a few years. But that never became a reality. Now German engineers are trying to do this in Pakistan.. :hoonh:

Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volkswagon, Opel, Adidas, are all German products, and if they make cars to the autobahn specifications then those cars must be trustworthy especially on American roads and highways…I have full trust in German technology too…They may move slower in technological terms compared to the US, but their technology is rock solid and long lasting…Not like the precise and surgical bombings of Iraq where every nation around Iraq got hit except Iraq…:hoonh:…Anyways, I think the German World War II uniforms of the Third Reich to me were the most immaculate and impressive forms of attire…Comparable to the Persian army’s suit and arms of the 15th century …We are being approached by businessmen and builders folks…Let’s learn from their know-how…We should welcome this opportunity with Dua’s…:jhanda:

same way some developed countries don't have a nuclear weapons programme or Missile development programme?

Anyway

There was talk about MagLev trains, but there was also talk of normal elevated Monorail .. like in Detroit and many other cities (London Gatwick Airport, Chicago O'Hare airport also have monorail trains)

The main concern was how to improve transport without impacting on existing transport infrastructure.

The initial costs for MagLev were quite high, though the project was viable. Due to costs it was shelved in favour of utilising the 'old' circular rail network again.

There was also concern about running costs and power requirements. Yuo don't really want power to be cut while the MagLev train is in midflight. hehe

For the forseeable future, no MagLev or Monorail. We are stuck with upgrading the Circular Train.
