Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

I'm not talking about what happened 60 years ago, I'm talking about what happens now. Sindhi's shouldn't be forced to learn Urdu either, we already have to learn English. All other languages except English should be optional.
English and another optional language would be just fine. You can choose Sindhi and I'd choose Urdu.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Yeah there are. But the students from Karachi education Board get the most seats at Government Universities, hence parents are forced to send their kid to Sindh board schools and in turn the kids have to learn Sindhi.
I didn't have to study it cause I did O'levels but my sister struggled with it.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Go to any government office and you'll see a Sindhi guy sitting on the seat. They don't treat you with respect and they don't listen to you. But that probably has more to do with the general government culture. Who voted Zardari into government, the Sindhis. He's your guy.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Don't make it political. People like Zardari only becomes Sindhi when they have to play political cards. If Sindhis voted him then who made him stay? Everyone in Pakistan including so called representatives of Urdu speaking community.

You said its a Sindhi who is not giving respect to people and then changed your statement that its overall government office culture. I appreciate it. These things are obvious and should not be associated with any community at all.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Karachi walo ke masle khatam he nhe hote :Eating his paan:

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

But we are talking about what lead to this situation. If you say there are majority of Sindhis in government offices then you should know what were the situations which were exploited by people like Bhutto to introduce quota system. But that is beyond scope of this section of forum.

I do agree that if a person don't want to learn a language, he should not be forced for academic purposes. Languages should be learn for better communication with fellow people.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Thats a issue of Punjab not Lahore :cobra:

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Well you have answered that in your own post. That has to more to do with the babu mentality in the government offices as compared to ethnicity. Secondly its a fact that there's no merit in the country, hence who ever comes to power starts stacking their supporters in Government departments, and in many cases the people are not capable for those posts. If meritocracy is improved these things will go away.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Because I know better. But it's easier for a regular Urdu-speaking guy to just blame Sindhis for everything.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Lahore Punjab nahin :hmmm:

How can you even connect Education with Identity? Both are totally different matters! All your posts show that either you have issues with the Sindhi Language and the Government because its Sindhi and the Sindhi Officers. I agree that the issues lie in all the departments of the Government but to target one group of people just because they speak the Sindhi language and say that that the Sindhi people who sit in their offices don't respect and all is very rude and wrong! As if others like Punjabis, Mahajirs, Pathans etc give great amount of respect.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Karachi is getting worse everyday and the Urdu speaking people find it easier to escape goat the other ethnicity.
MQM is revered as our savior that protected us when PPP let the Army loose on us. I personally think politically parties shouldn't have weapons but they do have them so :(

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

I like simplicity and truthfulness in your statement :k:

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

I guess those officers don't treat their own people with respect either.

And I'm not against Sindhis.

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Kinzz, he already mentioned that its overall government offices culture

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

you are right. bureaucracy and respect goes in different directions

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

Thank you

Re: Karachi - Identity & Ownership Crisis

You mean its all about political parties playing with emotions of common people. I heard people saying that environment of Karachi was much better for all ethnicities till Mid 80s
