kanjri is not a derogatory word in old Punjabi, it just mean dancing lady. There are many terms like this which got slang / derogatory with the passage of time. Kammi is referred to who does work (lower level labour), but its taken as a negative word now.

why didn't they change the name? For a mosque it should be something decent and appropriate.

The new name of Masjid is : mai moran di masjid. The old name suggests itself that it Kanjri was not an awkward word in old times :)
