I am surprised and dismayed to see Mr. Kaneria staying back in ENG for ODI’s. Everyone knew he is not even economical in test matches, plus he wasn’t any big thread to ENG during entire series, then what is the logic to retain Kaneria along with ODI’s squad?
If PCB really have big bucks to waste, why didn’t they retain Sami ullah Niazi along with the squad, atleast he could have benefitted from Waqar presence during the nets.
Similarly, I am just wondering if it is common for all other boards of cricket in the world to send every one, including selectors, ad hoc committee members, board chairman etc along with a visiting team? Why Pak needs all these individuals in their dressing room? and who is paying for everyone? Does it do any good to game of cricket or just waste of money?
This is a plague not only limited to the PCB. Its more of a 'pakistan' thing. When Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif visited the USA, his whole tabbar of a 747 full of tattoos went along with him.
Very good point raised. Before this series got under-way, Kaneria prepared himself and the entire world to Lord’s it over England, but this plan has now severly backfired. With a handful of wickets to his name, retaining the above-average performers such as Sami-ullah Niazi in the squad would have been a far decent option, rather than sticking with this horse in the mud.
Quite a number of people were lobbying heavily in favor of Mushtaq to join the camp, however, that did not mean to happen. Only if the selectors could have opened their eyes a bit more and see the picture as a whole, which included one of the best performances in the English county by our very own, maybe we would have seen an different Kaneria altogether.
Especially, being a spinner 35+ yo doesn't mean anything. Warne is in his mid thirthies, Kumbli and one of the SA spinner bloke played at the age of over 40s. Addition of Mushtaq will also give Pakistan a better Batsman than Kaneria.
May be Kaneria is Pakistan future but during this series PAK should have allowed a chance to Mushi for tests.
Looking at Karenia fieldings, economy rate and batting, I think even letting him hang around a one day squad will be a suicide. Just not sure what's going on in Pakistan.
You guys are an ungrateful bunch. PCB is not supposed to be a for-profit operation. Whether Kaneria deserves a place in the ODI squad has had split opinions. I myself think that he should not be a part of the ODI squad. However, we should also understand that whatever decision is made regarding his inclusion, it's going to keep 50% of the people unhappy, which is fair. But to extend that unhappiness into questioning people's motives and talking about 'money to burn' and 'people on honeymoon' makes you look very bitter and shallow. Why can we not be 'typical Pakistanis' for once.
Oh and by the way, it's one thing to criticize the PCB officials for going on paid trips, but it's a shame that we criticize the players too. Remember, these players are not getting paid by your taxes, rather it's the players who enable PCB to earn this money by selling commercial rights etc. Kanera might not have done well on this tour, but how can YOU put a fair value on their performances when YOU are not paying them.
Mr. be patient in your comments, it doesn't mean if Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed, Javed and co. raised Pakistan image, then they have the right to screw Pakistan and PCB. Every player is doing their part only because they are part of Pakistan team and thus they are accountable to every fan, supporter and national of Pakistan.
For your kind information, Kaneria wasn't even a big prospect in ODI team even on turning wickets of subcontinent, then how all of a sudden he became such a great asset for ODI team in English conditions. Also ODI is 50 overs (300 balls) game, and even if a bowler restrict his economy to 3 runs an over (which is VERY UNLIKELY for Mr. Karenia), this mean he saved 20 runs in his 10 overs as compared to bowling 10 overs from Afridi/Hafeez/Malik, but for sure fielding skipper (Inzi) will not have a place to hide him in the fielding, and most probably he will give away way more than 20 runs as a result of his professional class of fielding, and as a bonus will contribute a big ZERO with his batting, which may result in ending PAK batting few overs earlier and thus deprieving PAK from batting for some extra balls if not overs.
So get a life and stop criticizm just for the sake of criticism and acknowledge that PAK could have allowed this money and opportunity to a deserving youngster (most probably a fast bowler), who could benefits from Waqar tips during nets.
Cricketfan: Thanks for lecturing us on why Kaneria doesn't deserve a place in the ODI squad. I think you didn't read my previous post hard enough, so allow me to quote MYSELF here.

Sorry if you took it in a bad taste. No disrespect was intended! though analogy of 50% people happy doesn't fit in this case. Any one and every one who knows cricket will share same feelings, even you said in your message that you don't favor Kaneria selection in ODI team. If we all agree on the fact that chances (rather I should say sensible logic, since chances of occuring anything in PAK is always 50%, even chances of selecting Musharaf or GW Bush for Pak team are 50%) of Kaneria selection for ODI are almost close to zero, then why shouldnt we question his presence along with ODI squad, when PAK have many good emerging fast bowlers to groom, even they could have Zulqarnain along with the squad instead of Kaneria. Atleast this will allow Bob and co to see his keeping on Akhtar and co during net sessions. But again, to my understanding and logic it would have done a great deal of benefits to a young emerging fast bowler to stay with the squad and do some drills during net in the presence of Waqar.
if PCB sent fast bowlers to India for Lillee academy, then why can't they keep same youngster along with the team in Waqar presence, when they are already paying Waqar as bowling coach and wasting, yes wasting money on Kaneria, doing NOTHING along with the team. Or its just to keep the quota system happy by having an additional player from Karachi? The least I can say is "it is sad"
I am not sure how much it will cost for Kaneria stay after test series, but I can say with great confidence that that money could have fed many poor, earthquake affected people in Pakistan.
May Allah give befitting reward/punishment to Bari, Sheryar and co for their intentions.
Kaneria can never be a decent ODI bowler unless he develops a good Fliper or faster one, Which was also one of reasons behind his failure in Test series,Shane Warns takes almost half of his wickets against England by that delivery,Even Afridi has a good record against England only because of this variety,Plus his fielding is nill, and they have already ppl like Inzamam,Yousaf,Razzaq,Shoaib in the field,so they can hardly afford a fielder like kaneria.
My broadband is free, and I have done and will do whatever I could for poor people, anywhere in the world, irrespective of their color, faith or nationality, but if kaneria is your brother in law then I am sorry, but don't be upset with reality. Tell me one pro for having Kaneria with ODI squad, and I will apologize to you for starting this thread.
