Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik have questioned the PCB’s decision not to ‘clear’ them for selection for the tour of New Zealand. Kamran, the wicketkeeper who was not in the squad announced for the Twenty20 and Test series, had received clearance for selection from the ICC after he wrote to them asking if he was under investigation.
“I am disappointed at being left out because I forwarded an email from the ICC to the PCB last month that cleared my name for selection,” Kamran told AFP. “So I should know why I was excluded.” Kamran had written to the ICC after they had sent him and Salman Butt notices, during Pakistan’s tour of England in August, seeking information about events related to the 2010 World Twenty20 held in the Caribbean in May.
Kamran, Malik, Mohammad Yousuf and Danish Kaneria were all left out of the squad for the New Zealand tour and Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan said while Yousuf’s exclusion was due to lack of fitness, the rest had not been cleared by the PCB.
Malik, a former captain who has not played international cricket since Pakistan’s controversial tour of England in February, pointed to his track record. “I have performed well in the domestic season,” he said, “and throughout my 11-year career I have never been involved in any wrongdoing and was not even in the team when all those [spot-fixing] allegations were levelled.” Malik played in neither the Sydney Test nor against England at Lords - the two matches understood to be under investigation for spot-fixing by the ICC.
Pakistan channel Geo aired footage featuring alleged bookmaker Mazhar Majeed claiming Kamran was among seven players obeying his orders during matches. Kamran admitted Majeed was his marketing agent but denied that he had been involved in any wrongdoing.
“Majeed has been many Pakistani players’ agent,” he said. “He was Inzamam-ul-Haq’s agent, Yousuf’s agent and represented several other players including Umar Gul and Salman Butt. But I have never been involved in any wrongdoing.”
Kamran was dropped from the second Test on the tour of England after making wicket-keeping mistakes and getting a pair in the first Test. He continued to struggle with his keeping on the tour and was excluded from the Twenty20, ODI and Test series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates. He underwent a minor appendicitis operation before the tour but was fit when his brother Adnan Akmal was brought into the Test side after the controversial retirement of Zulqarnain Haider. He also scored 530 runs at an average of 75.71 for National Bank in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, including his maiden first-class double-century against Fasialabad.
“I am performing well at first-class level, so I still hope to play for Pakistan in the one-day series against New Zealand and then in next year’s World Cup,” Kamran said. Pakistan will announce a separate squad for the six ODIs to be played in New Zealand.

They have said the right thing

Re: Kamran, Malik question PCB's 'non-clearance'

Yahya Hussaini interviewed Osman Samiuddin from Cricinfo on Score today and he said that on the basis of pure cricket sense, Malik's exclusion is justified and with Hafeez, Afridi as all rounders performing well, and asad shafiq being there in the 11, there is no real need for Malik.

They did not discuss Kamran Akmal since I guess Geo has themselves been reporting about the suspicions around Kamran.

Super sixes final loss…malik’s undoing…??:hmmm:

In any case, I think he should keep his politicking personality out of pakistan cricket and maybe sign a long term deal with IPL or ICL…or move to england to a country side…

Malik dropped because of Super Sixes loss?
Press Trust of India

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik being ignored for the New Zealand tour could be a result of the team’s unlikely loss in the Super Sixes Tournament final in Hong Kong under his captaincy last month.

Sources said Malik, who was ignored by the selectors on Tuesday for the New Zealand tour despite his terrific form in domestic cricket, may have been sidelined because of the Hong Kong tournament.

“Malik was captain and in the final opponents Australia required 48 runs in the final over to win the match. Imran Nazir a part time bowler was given the ball and incredibly even in the super sixes format he conceded 48 runs bowling number of wides and no-balls in the decisive over,” one source said.

He said the final over had raised eyebrows in the Pakistan Cricket Board and given Malik’s disciplinary record as well the selectors decided to play it safe.

“If a player has scored three big hundreds in succession in domestic cricket he is always a serious contender but in Malik’s case his ouster may also be linked to non-cricketing reasons,” the source said.

Malik himself told the media that he was extremely disappointed at not making the team.

“What more do I have to do to prove myself. I have scored nearly 580 runs in five innings with three centuries and I have taken 14 wickets for PIA in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and if this not enough to win me a place back in the team I don’t know what is,” Malik said.

“If the selectors are not considering me when I am in prime form then I think I am within my right to at least ask them to tell me on what grounds I have not been picked in the touring squad,” Malik said.

Re: Kamran, Malik question PCB's 'non-clearance'

In all fairness, here are the facts about Hong Kong Sixes tournament.
1. Boundaries are EXTREMELY short. A simple flick or a jab will go for a six. This leads to high scores, such as Pakistan's 132 in 5 overs.
2. An over consists of EIGHT balls, not six.
3. Wides and No-balls cost 2 runs, in addition to the runs scored by boundaries or by the batsmen.

However, conceding 46 runs with 1 ball to spare is still an unbelievable feat.

Re: Kamran, Malik question PCB's 'non-clearance'

This simply is not on!! If PCB has got any evidence against these two they need to show it to every one or charge these players. Why there is silence at their end????? They are just doing the same thing which ICC did. Either not telling anything or dragging the whole issue resulting in unnecessary rumours. Now media will go into Shoiab Malik's history and dig up some old games where Malik played along with asif and butt and correlate everything with fixing. End result, Pakistan has been doing this since the time Haroon Lorgart was born.

Re: Kamran, Malik question PCB's 'non-clearance'

PCB shouldn't really need any 'fixing' type of allegation against Malik, he is well known for his antics and anti-team activities. For Kamran Akmal, his performance is sufficient to keep him away.

^^Malik the politician should play domestic and Indian Crook League.
