Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

I am not sure if statistics for DROPPED CATCHES is maintained anywhere including Cricinfo. For example, I have not read anywhere that so-and-so player holds the record for maximum number of dropped catches.

How do you "legally" define a DROPPED CATCH ? An excellent fielder/wicket-keeper might make an unsuccessful attempt for a normally non-existent catch. Would that be considered a DROPPED chance.

Given the lack of this statistical information, I don't see how Cricinfo will make an interpretation about the contribution of Akmal's lapses behind the stumps to team defeats. But I could be wrong.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

yar I know it is not something which is maintained or which we can access through statsguru.

It is something like a special artilce you read in Numbers Game. For instance there was a one earlier this year about Rana Naveed being the most effective bowler in slog overs. And there are several others like that.

I don't know if there is a standard defintion of a dropped catch however most often a ball which a fielder fails to hold after it has already touched a part of his body is considered a dropped catch. It doesn't really matter if the butterfingered Akmal dropped it or magnificent Rhodes dropped it after diving full stretch. It is called a catch which was dropped.

For instance if akmal dropped Kallis on 7 and he eventually scored 107, then he let him score 100 more runs. I know for one or two or few more games it doesn't really matter. Everyone drop catches, important or non-important. But if you have a table of several cricticial games from a very short time period of 12-16 months and listed are kamran akmal stunts in those games, then it will have impact.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

That analysis can be done easily with the ball-by-ball information that Cricinfo maintains. Dropped catches, though is another story...or may be Cricinfo can go looking for the word "dropped" in their text commentary , or something like that.

Anyways, as I said earlier I could be wrong about this.

Would be interesting to see if Cricinfo comes out with the story you are looking for.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

As Some1 has said, there are no records kept for "dropped catches", so you cannot really assess it. However, the question is, why the hell would you need to do such an analysis? I have eyes! Akmal has been f'ing horrible! Drop his rear end and find someone who can hold on to catches.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

Game you have eyes just like most of us here. I wish some of us were in PCB.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

"Kamran Akmal is the best wicket-keeper in the country" - from Nasim Ashraf, is the thing that is just peeving about this whole situation. It has gotten so far off the scale that the routine of dropping one catch per match is now considered a norm, from his standard. It is disgraceful to constantly come across the news clips and interviews from the management where Akmal is praised to the moon and literally pushed down our throats as a 'best wicket-keeper in the country'. The disease is on-going from last year's into this year, and every time a potential 'cup' is dropped, both sides of the fence start to throw missiles at each other through Dawn and other 'private' sources. Had we inducted fresh faces on the basis of merit (merit......merit what?), it would have not come down to this. Had we taken an initiative (initiative......initiative what?), a healthy competition amongst a selected few would exist and Akmal would be welcomed into the team had he shown his worthiness of being in one. Kamran Akmal has taken and begged for suggestions from the best in the business. Everyone has extended his hand for help, the likes of Ian Healy, Gilchrist, Latif and Moin Khan, and it has extended far from the point of writing anything related to him, period.

Much has already been said and discussed. I will give him till the end of Australia series for any rectifications. Afterwards, either he will be hanging his boots or I will manually move myself further two inches towards the grave. The batting, the fielding, the God awful cheering, just about had it with this.

May be we can *expect *an updated version this time

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

Done again today...

13.4 Iftikhar Anjum to Gambhir, 1 run, Dropped by Akmal. It was full in length, outside off stump, Gambhir drives on the up and gets a edge which flies low and just in front of Akmal who couldn't quite wrap his gloves under the ball.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

this is absolutly absurd. How can u afford to miss chances on batting pitces like these. Its just mind boggling why he is in the team right now.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

These selectors claim to be aggressive and bold. The best thing to happen right now would be to drop Akmal in the middle of this series. Thsi will lift the morale of the team. Like Fkhan said above, bowlers dont even express anger when akmal drops a catch. Its just a routine thing for them.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

If we all pitch in $10 we can hire sheda tali to break Kami's leg...I will pitch in $50.

Re: Kamran Akmal NEEDS TO GO!!

I'm in i pitch 100$, how many broken legs do we have so far?

Waise, there is no doubt Akmal's days are counted. He will have to be replaced after this Series. His movement and body language do not really help him much for his cause. It's high time! Over with him.
