Kamra Airbase attacked

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

anything is acceptable for US right now that can help them get out of the mess they created while saving their face

come 2014 they will not even thinking about saving face....

mercenary2k, please remind me once again what was your take on deals/agreements that Pakistan was trying to ink with local commanders of TTP in some regions who were willing to stop violence? I believe you were furiously against any kind of deal then with any group whose name starts with T and ends at BAN with ALI in the middle? eh? why such a change of heart?

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

As I have stated before the "Good" Taliban are those who can pried away from the clutches the hardcore Taliban.

Think of Mullah Omar as Hitler, the Taliban as the German Army.

There were Good German Officers in the German Army in World War II. Not all of them were committed Nazis, so there German Soldiers who could have been pried away from the Nazis. Thats all I am saying.

As for my proofs, they are from respectable news outlets such as BBC and Al Jazeera. You really didn't think I had access to NSA and CIA computers and I going to produce classified intelligence, did you? :D

You can't quote me a single news article that supports the view that America is helping the TTP. Even Russia's RT or Iran's PressTV will not endorse such a ridiculous claim.

And lastly, I don't really watch the American Media, its too myopic for me as they cover only American News Stories and I prefer a more global news diet. So I rely mostly on BBC and Al Jazeera English for my news.

So overall, you cannot produce a single iota of evidence to claim that America is supporting TTP and nor can you justify it logically.

But by this childish argument that America is bad, Pakistan is good and anyone who attacks Pakistan must be supported by bad America and Pakistan cannot be held to account for the policies that it formulated and implemented.

Sorry, but that is just not good enough.

To me this analogy fits well:
A child is doing terrible in school and failing exams and classes. The parents, instead of focusing on why the child is failing, such as its study habits, work ethic, where it needs help, instead start blaming the school, the teacher or its classmates for on purpose failing their child.

They could claim that their child writes the right answers on his test but then the teacher erases those answers and writes the wrong answers. Or their child is given harder and different exams than the rest of the classmates, etc.

Basically blaming everyone else but themselves for their child's failure.

And that is exactly what you are doing. Blaming Pakistan's failures on others by believing these fairy tale conspiracy theories.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

Pakistan signed those deals in good faith and as I expected, the Taliban did not adhere to them and used that time to rebuild their strength. So thats why I opposed them and I was right yet again. :D

Pakistan is different than Afghanistan. We never had an Islamic Extremist Government run Pakistan the way it has been in Afghanistan. So Pakistan making peace deals with these TTP terrorists is like giving up part of Pakistan's sovereignty.

The Taliban are a bigger part of Afghanistan since they ran the country. So there has to be a political framework in which they are brought on board and there is reconciliation. The sticking point is for the Taliban harboring foreign terrorists like Al Qaeda and using it as a base to plan global terrorist attacks.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

what made you believe that they will sign the deal in good faith with USA and adhere to the terms?

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

No its not what America says, I already explained it logically.

Good Taliban are those who can be pried away from the Taliban ideology. They are just poor Afghans who joined the Taliban because they don't like the corrupt and incompetent Afghan government.

I hope you get it now. :D

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

Because the key point here is the Taliban will have a say in Afghan Government, that option did not exist when Pakistan signed the deal with them.

Pakistan's deal was basically, we will withdraw our Army from Tribal Areas and you guys pledge to stop launching attacks into Afghanistan and stop harboring foreigners. I knew they will never abide by it. And Pakistan was abdicating its territory to these terrorists.

The deal with the Afghan Taliban is that you will be given a chance to participate in the Afghan political process but you cannot harbor foreign terrorists like Al Qaeda.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

Say?

Taliban had almost whole Afghanistan, they then did not stopped harboring terrorists. There is no guarantee that once US is out, Taliban will not take full control. Karzai has next to 0 support in masses of Afghanistan. He is ruling from within the fort in Kabul and cant even step out on his own with CIA protraction. Booting him out will be a cake walk for Taliban if they want to (once US and other forces are out)

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

Yes I agree.

That remains the problem.

I personally don't care if the Taliban come back to power in Afghanistan provided they do not harbor foreign terrorists.

If they can make that pledge and swear on the Quran or something. But there are no easy answers here.

But Pakistan is different. If the Taliban and their backward ideology can be holed up in FATA and not spread to other parts of Pakistan, then I don't care what happens there provided they do not do anything that jeopardizes Pakistan in the foreign arena like hosting foreign terrorists.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

^ After more than 10 years of the war do you really think that the ideology is still holed up in FATA, or have we exported it into the whole country by dislocating the terrorists from their safe havens? Has overall extremism grown or diminished?

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

any new updates on attackers identification?

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

attacks on military installations were unknown in Pakistan.

let’s look at Timeline of Pakistan’s Defence attacked by militants.

**October 2009:
**
At least 10 gunmen clad in military uniforms and driving a white car attacked the General Headquarters (GHQ) located in Rawalpindi on the morning of October 10.
The GHQ was under siege for several hours where the militants had taken at least 42 hostages. According to Major General Athar Abbas militants presented a list of demands which included the release of some of the most wanted terrorists.
Operation Janbaz was launched to rescue the hostages and the Pakistan Army was able to rescue 39 of them. However, 11 soldiers and three hostages were killed during the attack and operation.

The operation also resulted in the capture of Aqeel aka Dr Usman whereas the other nine attackers were killed.
Amjad Farooqi Group claimed the responsibility of the GHQ attack.
On October 23, a suicide bomber blew himself up near the Minhas military air base in Kamra (Attock), killing eight, including two security officials and six other people, and injuring 17 others.

**May 2011:
**
Several armed gunmen attacked PNS Mehran — one of the most densely populated naval bases located in Karachi — during the early hours of May 22. According to Interior Minister Rehman Malik, four to six armed militants used ladders to climb the naval base, triggering a fierce gun battle and a series of explosions.

One of the attackers was believed to have blown himself up whereas bodies of three others were found. Moreover, two attackers had managed to escape.
According to Malik, the militants invaded the base from three different points adjacent to Karachi’s residential areas.
The attack and operation lasted for 17 hours and resulted in the deaths of 10 security personnel. Two US-manufactured surveillance planes were also destroyed during the attack and the ensuing operation.

The responsibility of the attack was claimed by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

August 2012:
Eight heavilyarmed personnel launched an attack on Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) Minhas Airbase located in Kamra (Attock) in Punjab during the early hours of August 16. All the eight militants were killed by security forces whereas one security man also died during the attack and the ensuing operation.
The militants were carrying explosives, guns and suicide vests.
TTP claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Timeline of Pakistan

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

^ In addition to this there have been attacks on ISI, FIA headquarters, police training center Manawan, Naval war college Lahore and not to forget the attack on Srilankan cricket team.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

all these attacks on army/navy/police force headquarters, checkposts etc, started occuring since 2009. that shows that over the years, TTP has grown stronger, hence they are carrying out more frequent attacks.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

Actually the frequency of attacks have gone down.

2009 and 2010, there were attacks every day.

Now its still bad, but the frequency is like once a week or something.

Re: Kamra Airbase attacked

I think attacks on civilians have gone down a lil. 2010-2011 were deadliest years for Pakistan. just in 2011, there were 3 attacks on Pakistan navy. however, i still feel these monsters are now carrying out more frequent attacks on checkposts, Paramilitary forces, fc personnel, police force, even cross border attacks were not common few years back. but now every other week, militants from afghan side are attacking FC personnels.

Three CIA and Mossad agents identified…Kamra attack mastermind identified | DAWN.COM

ATTOCK, Aug 25: The district police on Saturday said the mastermind of Kamra airbase attack was an ex-civilian employee of an organisation in Wah cantonment and the resident of Taxila.
The police have so far identified three of the nine militants including the mastermind, who were killed in the operation, District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hilal Khan said adding the police had almost finalised investigation into the August 16 attack on the airbase.Talking to Dawn, he said the police had also arrested one of the high profile suspects, who is also an ex-serviceman and associated with the nursing profession.
The suspect provided a major breakthrough in the investigation as he was a close friend of the mastermind, Faisal Shehzad, the police officer added.
Replying to a question, the DPO said the three militants were identified through the record of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) after their thumbs impressions and fingerprints, sent by the forensic teams of police and Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), tallied with their record.
As per Nadra’s record, the three militants identified as 32-year-old Faisal Shehzad, resident of Muhallah Muhajir, Taxila, Mohammad Anis, resident of Kasur district and Taimoor Butt, resident of Sialkot district, he said.
Giving details of the investigation, the DPO said that Faisal Shehzad had left the organisation some seven years back.
Later, he established links with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the DPO said adding the police had arrested him for his involvement in two suicidal attacks outside Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) Wah on Aug 21, 2008 in which at least 70 people were killed and about 80 others injured. But later he was released by the police apparently for want of evidence, he said adding efforts are under way to identify six other militants.
Meanwhile, sources said besides Attock district police, other sensitive security agencies have so far picked up 40 high profile suspects for their direct or indirect involvement in Karma incident.
However, the security agencies have not shared any details with the district police.
Moreover, the Air Chief has already set up a five-member board of inquiry (BOI) under the supervision of Air Marshal Syed Athar Hussain Bukhari to investigate the incident.
