Kammi or ghatiya log

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

hmmm Kammi itself isn't derogatory, just like Negro isn't.. but it's use can be.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

I think thats a whole different issue Sabah was on about. Apparently I coulnd't get beyond ghatya and kammi to get the gist of it all.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

The word 'kammi' has no bad meaning for me. A good friend of mine is named Kamran and we call him kammi with love and affection. If someone called me Kammi I would probably give her a big hug to make up for any kammi baishi.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

oh ok, im so not understanding either...this Kammi word is kinda confusing. Im going to ask my daddi what it means, hopefully she wont curse me for asking!

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

its unparh log rather than kammi..who slurrp the tea - but seriously have you tried slurping - it? its so much fun.

i think its dead tite tho calling the kammi people kammi.

ALlah didnt invent high and lo casts so we shouldnt say whos who and whats what..

nakhray math karo.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

miss mohabbat,

kammi - means neechy - which means lower - like nai, mochi, masali, bajgar, etc etc.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

MM: basically both mean low class...

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

ok...i think i get what it means now...thanks Mem and 50-B

now what does tea drinking have to do with "kammi" people?

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

It is not so much caste as it is socio-economic standing. You can call me Kammi..see if I care. :snooty:

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

well... there's nothing neechy about these professions... it actually means "workers" the root of the word is "kam" - work. But it is used in a derogatory way and generally a reference to such workers.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

tea drinking has nothing to do with it.
Sabah just associated slurpy tea drinkers to kammi's.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

madhanee, so a worker is a kammi...shouldn't we all be proud of being a worker?. I guess not in the sub continent.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

slurping is not refined behavior, like some would think eating with your hands as opposed to using an utensil or licking your fingers :p

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

yes we should be...but in the sub-continent people are proud of their body parts and the size of their farms, not professions.

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

sabah I think you have a point. A person is not a kammi because of his caste but more so because of his actions. people use the word to mean somebody who is low etc but that is derogatory. If a guy has no table manners and you're pissed you can call him a jerk an idiot or a kammi.better use such terms for these circumtances then saying he is a kammi because of his caste.no such thing as caste systems.its people with screwed up heads.

rest of the herd, whats with the tea party?

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

wanna be called a kammi eh? trying to move up in society hmmm

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

well i asked my daddi what the term "kammi" meant and bless her she asked if i had spoken to my uncle kami...

Is it an urdu word or Punjabi?

and yes, before anyone witty person decides to comment, i have no life and i really do want to know...

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

Missy, it is pronounced as “Come-EEE” Kum’ee (not Kammi or Commie). Now go and ask you Daddi again.

:jhanda:

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

Missy how's the proff doing?

Re: Kammi or ghatiya log

i pronounced it correctly ok, dont confuse me even more so...im still having trouble understanding what the "D" word means...I mean where do these words come from? they sound awful...
