Just as you do things religiously, desis like their tea scalding hot - pretty religiously. Since tea cools down fast desis have to be able to finish it up fast to savour as much of the hot tea as possible. Thus the slurp sound. The aahhhhh that follows is just recognition of a cup of tea well made.
Its a desi thing. If you can't stand it, you aren't desi enough. May i suggest you get up and leave next time.
