Re: kami changes name to choudry
The Chaudary's and Maliks in Punjab are more lowly than any labouring class Punjabi can ever be.
During the British rule these present day Chaudary's and Malik's were what you Punjabis call Kami, now these Kami were starved, greedy and had no self respect so they worked for the British, they cleaned their toilets, washed their underwear, massaged their feet, plucked their pubes, cleaned their rubbish, basically they were servants to the British. These greedy traitors licked the rears of these foreigners who were ruling their motherland, when Pakistan and India got independence the British left and they gave their properties and land to their loyal servants, that's how presentday Chaudary's and Malik's became Jagirdars and Zamindars over night, same is the case with Waderas in Sindh, all their ancestors were dogs belonging to the British.
Now today your average Punjabi is servant to these servants, they have to get permission for everything from them, whether it's driving a bus or building a school.
All public transport like buses, vans etc. in rural Punjab are owned by the Maliks and mannnn are they in BADDDD condition, so uncomfortable to ride in, but the Maliks wont improve them and they wont let private individuals provide public transport because it takes their business away. I once asked a chacha in southern Punjab why their transport is so crap he said when you lot "up near Kabul" throw away your used veichles they're are brought here and used by us.
Re: kami changes name to choudry
I think literally it means "low" in Punjabi, it's used to refer to people belonging to so called low castes.
You see these duggas still have a Hindu mentality and practice Hindu ways, like you'll know in the Hindu days everyone was born into a certain caste and that caste determined his role/career in society from which there was no moving up or down, people were stuck in certain jobs depending on the caste they were born into, shoes makers would always stay shoe makers and soldiers would stay soldiers even generations later.
Now people like Pashtuns have tribes/clans where everyone is equal and respect is based on a tribes achievements, now civilised ethnic groups like Urdu speaking people also have the same approach but Punjabis are still to catch up and leave the backward ways of Sikhs and Hindus behind.
