I don’t know about most of you but I heard this word constantly growing up. Actually come to think of it I heard ALOT of bad words that I used to think were okay to say but are obviously not now. (Just b/c some relatives would call someone else a ********************
in all jest/fun, doesnt mean I can do the same). But i’m not quite sure about “kameena/kameeni” (greedy)?
The way you mentioned it Sara...I was imagining a lady on top of a hill awaz deiiing "Oh Kameeenneeey"...:D
Same would be "Oh KUtttteehhh":D
Anyway...I would tink depends on what sort of a relationship you have with the person who is saying that. If its a friend and you know they ar joking then its a moderate mazak sort of a gaali...but if not then its a bad gaali...and for that you have to say"sumbaady gonna get hurt real bad:ASA: "
kameena/kameeni could mean a lot of thing ....... meanie, stingy, annoying person, disrespectful, disobedient etc
Depends on who is calling this and in what tone of voice. If a complete stranger says it to you it's definitely a gaali but still a milder one. If parents says it .... that could mean they think you are being disrespectful or disobediant ... between friends it could just be a joke or some serious business depending on tone and situation.
I used to go to school with a West Indian girl whose parents loved Indian movies and their favorite actress was the olden days great Kamini Kaushal. Only problem was - they didn't know how to pronounce the name. Soooo, instead of calling their daughter Kamini, she became kameenee (LOL). It was only later in life when she was in school with other South Asians that she learned what her parents mispronunciation had done to her name.
